My wife ONLY plays Dr. Mario!

@Capeman Make sure you write a book on your discoveries if you successfully convert her. For a friend, of course.
-
2 player Tengen Tetris was her obsession before Dr. Mario
Lack of variety aside, you can't accuse her of bad taste. Tengen Tetris is somewhat unknown to most people. Did she play it growing up, or did she discover it on RetroPie?

I think we have to call the council for an extraordinary meeting. Being interested in a RetroPie brother's wife is a serious affront to our statute.
-
It's a slippery slope to be sure. Next thing you know, we're organizing key parties to determine co-op partners for netplay.

She's always liked tetris, but wanted to play it 2 player. So i introduced her to that version, she likes the music and the little dancing russians between rounds, haha.

When @Capeman finishes writing his book about his journeys of converting his wife into a hardcore gamer, I'm sure it will be a best seller. All the gamers will be reading it in hopes they will be able to turn their significant other into gamers as well!
-
Of the original versions, it has the most to offer. I have the most nostalgia for the Nintendo version, but Tengen is arguably the better game.
Speaking of netplay; now that it's up and running again, let's get that long-overdue game of 'Contra' going. We'll need to come up with a good compromise between our time differences, but Red Falcon must be destroyed!
-
My girlfriend i am fixing to move in with soon, loves Dr. Mario and so does her mom and aunt who live there to.. and they 65 and 66 years old lol

I'll send a PM in retroachievements site and we'll talk abou it better. I want that "beat the game with no konami code" cheevo!

I've done it in the past. I could use a bit of a refresher. I might try to get a few good games under my belt this weekend.
-
Super puzzle fighter is always a good competitive puzzler that my gf plays.
-
@Wonkie What is wrong with women that they refuse to blow shit up and pummel innocent goons?
-
@Wonkie I've tried her on that, she doesnt like the combo drops on her side.... when we play Dr. Mario, i have to use a hacked version that removes the combo drops or she drops profanity the whole time we're playing, hahaha. She's more of a casual competitive or co-op type, not really into full contact puzzle games, haha.
-
@Capeman "Full contact puzzle games" I like the sound of that, Hahahaha!
-
@AlexMurphy There is really no better way to describe Puzzle Fighter, haha

So no Mean Bean Machine, I take it.

@Capeman FINISH HER! FLAWLESS VICTORY!
-
My wife only plays Dr. Mario too... wait one sec.. you don't live in New Mexico do you? Lol j/k. I have got her to play a bit of bubble bobble and super Mario bros 3. I found the real way to get her to switch games is to use a challenge and a bit of drinking helps too. I bet you can't beat me at (fill in blank)... but the real secret is you have to let her win at least the first night ;).
-
@Capeman only saw this now. Definitely recommend Tetris on the gameboy in split screen multiplayer, puzzle bobble on the arcade/neogeo, and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machines, which is just a very unfortunate western localization of a great game which is Puyo Puyo.
Both should be easy to move her into.
The Magical Drop games also seem to be a possibility in the same genres, but I've yet to play them with my wife.

Bust a Move/Puzzle Bobble.
Fortunately my wife loves retro gaming, but I have to keep her away from this game. Once she gets started on Bust a Move you can forget everything else for a while.
