8bitdo zero on Pi3 running Retropie 4.2 won't configure

Re: [SOLVED] 8bitdo ZERO Gamepad controls are mapped incorrectly
Hi has anyone has an issue configuring the 8bitdo zero with retropie on pi3?
In Retropie setup I can find it under register blue tooth devices and I add it, it functions in that menu system. when I go back into emulationstation it won't work, which I assume is normal until it gets mapped. However, i also went in the controller config menu to map the buttons, I have tried holding down each of the buttons, and it won't recognise the controller.Does anyone have any solutions?

@tmak did you follow the documentation page on it - make sure you power on in the correct mode before pairing, and make sure you install the udev rule.
Check https://retropie.org.uk/docs/8Bitdo-Controller/
and
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first
(The info for their other controllers should apply to yours - make sure you have latest firmware - and 8bitdo hack mode off before remapping. If ES doesn't detect the controller, it's likely you didn't install the udev rule)

Thanks for the reply,,,, I have two 8bitdo hooked up, the nes30 pro and snes30. Been a long time since I hooked up a controller. Thanks for the reminder about udev rule.
I'll let you know if works.

Thanks BuZz, this is one of those Duh, moments. I Should have known that step .
Now gotta back track through the forums to figure out why the buttons are all awkwardly configured on the 8bitdo zero for every emulator, e.g. B button is start on NES and only d pad seems to work in mames, etc.

@tmak switch hack mode and reconfigure.

Thanks for the tip, I thought is was working great until I went back to trying to use my regular controllers.
so this is what's happening,
I have the following 8bitdo controllers set up:
- Snes30
- Nes30 pro
- Zero
When I set up controllers 1&2 a long time ago i never had any issue with the button mapping. The hack setting was set to "off".
Then I bought controller 3 last weekend, and I get these button issues not being mapped correctly. So I took your advice and changed the hack setting to "on".
Great this worked for controller 3. However now it throws controllers 1&2 out a wack and their buttons are no longer mapped correctly.
So I had to set the hack back to off and re configure them.I couldn't figure out what was going on. So right now I don't really know a way to keep all 3 controllers mapped correctly at once and I've removed the zero :(.
Do you have any tips for this?
I'm hoping there is a really easy way to fix this that I am not seeing. Thanks,

@tmak hack mode should be off with the latest firmware. Did you update the firmware on the zero ? (assuming it is upgradable).
If the zero requires hack mode on even with latest firmware, you still configure it, but putting hack mode on, configuring the zero, then off and configuring the others.

I checked I the 8bitdo website, no luck finding a firmware upgrade for the zero. The other two have firmware upgrades.
Okay, I'll try your suggestion tomorrow, I'm pretty sure I already tried that. But I can't remember.
Thanks for the quick reply.
I'll let you know if it works.

@tmak I've had all these same problems with the 8bitdo Zeros working with other 8bitdo controllers. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread to see if you come accross "One Solution to Rule Them All".

Hi Buzz, unfortunately I've had no luck getting all the controllers to work, the zero throws the other two off or vice versa. There doesn't seem to be a way to keep them all correctly mapped simultaneously. Guess for now I'm just gonna keep the zero controller for pi zero and the other two for my pi 3.
Thanks,

I'll keep you posted if I find anything that works. I don't think the zero has upgradeable firmware either.
Thanks,

is there any update on this issue? I'd love to use my zero among the sfc30 and nes30 pro but no luck at all. Maybe more recent produced/shipped 8bitdo Zeros have a newer firmware which works with hack off?

I received my 8bitdo Zero 2 days back, still no luck configuring together with other 8bitdo controllers. Maybe downgrading the other 8bitdo controllers and switching the hack mode to on could help to get them to work all at the same time..
