Retropie is shiiite
-
Ok, so hopefully I got someone's attention by this topic.
I have made now 5 attempt to get retropie working on a raspberry pi 3 b
Problem is however the retropie it selves, as it seems to run smooth except for minor thing.- I partition an USB Curzer fit 32GB stick with FAT32
- I made a folder called retropie
- Ejected it and placed it into the raspberry pi and waited for the lights to go out.
3a. ejected it from the raspberry and inserted it into my pc
"No folders was created"
- Ejected it and placed it into my raspberry
- Rebooted the raspberry pi
- Waited for the lights to stop blinking and os to be finished loading.
- Gave the stick 2 hours to complete
- Ejected it and placed it into the pc to copy som roms.
"Did not work at all, no folders was created."
Ok!!
So I went into the retropie-setup and enabled usbmount
Tried it all again with out any differenceThen I tried to copy the folder struction from the retropie to my usb
and placed a rom into the roms game subfolder i.e. "nes" and "snes"
This did not work either, no games was shown in the "gui", only the label "Configuration"Last I updated everything i could find in any of the menues.
Did not work either. So my basic conclusion is this, the damn thing do not work
Can anyone see what I do wrong, what I didnt do or have any suggestion to how I can get my retropie to work?
Best regards

Try naming the folder "retropie-mount". That has done the trick for me :D
-
Thank you, will give this a try for sure. Posting an update shortly after.

@nubbix Have you considered another method to transfer ROMs to the Pi? You can transfer over network using samba which is enabled by default or by using WinSCP / Filezilla. Much easier than the USB method.
Btw, there's no need for the stupid "attention grabbing" topic title, you'll get more help if you ask nicely and name the topic in a relevant way. -

That way you can also easily adjust settings etc by opening up config files and adjust stuff on the fly...

Well that effort did not work.
Upon rebooting I noticed that first the usbmount service is started, then later it shows and error message "usbmount failed."
So there is for sure something wrong with the retropie. The usb works like a charm and the raspberry pi works like a charm (tested with different distros)
So how do I fix the usb mount?
Currently the retropie is installed on an eight gigabyte micro sd card, I have an 32gb too but did not see any reason for this?
Should I use the 32gb and copy i.e. roms to this before I stick it into the pi? -
@nubbix Change your topic title to describe the problem without the stupidity, unless you want to be removed from the forum.

Cannot find any edit, so cannot change it.
Update.. I'd got it to work by SSH into the pie and placed the rom into the pie.
So retropie cannot read the usb stick making me need to make a retropie on a 32gb sd card instead of the current 8gb I have now.
Just to be able to stick som roms on it.Thanks for the effort guys

For me it worked like it is described in the wiki.
Format Stick to Fat32, create retropie-mount on the stick, enable usb mount from RetroPie Setup, plug in stick, reboot.
Sometimes it shows that usb mount service failed but it actually never really did for me. -
@nubbix That is very strange! Have you tried rebooting? If so, I recommend you backup your current setup and freshly install the newest version of retropie and do it again.
-
I just read that sometimes you need to reboot while your usb stick is you raspberry pi. If that doesn't work, you can try transferring roms via wifi or SSH.
-
Tried all, rebooting, insert with retropie, retropie-mount etc. Nothing works.
Also tried with usbmount enabled and without, with hardcopy to usb and without.
Nothing work, even tried 4 differnt usbs. But it is working just fine now, need to ssh into the pi and copy the roms over. Tried both nes and snes and both are working just fine.
So at least for now I do not need an usb so it seems.

Press the three vertical dots at the bottom right of the first post.

@herb_fargus
I don't thinks that's true. The three vertical dots do not signify editing. Nor is it a known symbol for such.Maybe changing the three vertical dots to the word 'edit' would make more sense.
Looks like problem exists with the designer.
-
@Yonut I use Android devices. Those 3 vertical dots indicate additional options.
-
Being a web developer/designer I can say it's unconventional for a frequent action like edit to be hidden inside a context menu while reply and quote are outside of them. With that being said though, it doesn't take too long to figure out where the edit link is.

Sounds like RetroPie is NOT shiite after all. Please, login to this site from any computer in the world with internet access and fix your post title. It is not funny but offensive and insulting to the devs and everyone else here making a contribution who put in a tremendous amount of time and effort so that you can use something for free. Others have made USB work just fine, so it is not RetroPie that is your problem. You posted some good details which is somewhat redeeming--and people were willing to help. Show a little respect.

@masteryoer It is unusual but not unheard of. I imagine it is a limitation / option for the forum layout chosen. It may also be a choice that the admins made, i.e. on this forum you cannot delete any post after 300 seconds.
