@spruce_m00se Well, you could pull the sound card temporarily and borrow the port.

How does a non-powered hub get powered from a power supply? Wouldn't that make it a powered hub? I think you may need to improvise a few connections here just to get the quick editing job done (like hook it up to a powered hub temporarily).

@caver01 so what I have is a non powered 4 port hub, and a pi running off of a power bank.
I have physically removed one of the usb ports and hard wired the usb sound card to that port, this has been working for several tens of hours of playtime at least.
then there are 3 usb ports on the outside of the device, accesible, I have also removed the usb lead from the hub, and hard wired the data wires to the pi, and the +5 and - wires have been hard wired to the output of the power bank, so that no power on those ports is sourced from the pi, this has all worked well, until now, lol , i will try some other tests before opening the case and checking wires.
i may put a kodi instal on the sd card and see if that recognises the keyboard first. its strange that the sound card would work but all the other three ports die.......

one more thing, it cant be the usb ports being physically dead, the sound card works, and the usb wifi dongle works, I can see wifi networks but not connect due to a lack of keyboard, I cannot get a gamepad to register either though...... very wierd,

well i just tried my wifi card on all three usb ports, and it can see the network without issues, so all three usb ports must be functioning.
I tried a confirmed working keyboard, and two confirmed working gamepads and they arent detected, not in a fresh instal or in the one with the GPIO keyboard.

very strange. I will open a new thread on this subject with a better title in the hope of getting some help.
