Pi Model or other hardware: Pi 3 Model B
Power Supply used: CanaKit 5V 2.5A PSU
      RetroPie Version Used: 4.2
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website
      USB Devices connected: PS3 controller
      Controller used: PS3 controller
      Error messages received:
1st page says "Could not install package(s): check install libusb-dev libbluetooth-dev".
2nd page says "Please see /home/Pi/RetroPie-Setup/logs/rps_2017-03-03_162059.log.gz for more in depth information regarding the errors"
Guide used: RetroPie First Install Guide

Hi everyone! This is my 1st post, and I am literally brand new to RetroPie and Raspberry Pi's in general.

I was following the First Install guide on RetroPie's website. I have OS X, so I used ApplePi-Baker to prep the micro SD card. I used the 4.2 image from the RetroPie website.

It boots up, but my controller constantly vibrates. It's PS3 controller. Upon first boot it does says is a Shawan and some giberish afterwards. I map it and I am able to navigate RetroPie and EmulationStation.

I also followed the PS3 controller for bluetooth and running into those errors listed.

I did a search for Shanwan and it looks like I have a counterfeit PS3 controller or something of that ilk. I tried combing through the long thread for a solution, but could not decipher what to do.

Truth be told, am I just better off getting another controller? Like a PS4 controller?

      Thanks everyone!

        Welcome to the RetroPie Forums!

I would personally get another controller (like a real one).
Can we also see a picture of the PS3 controller? It could be real, it could be fake and possibly RetroPie is assuming something else.
