RE: Using Retropie in a Virtual Machine
Can't provide help on your topic, but doesn't seem it would work like you want. I can understand why you want do this, but is it required? I mean operating directly on the pi itself is the same as if you would do it in virtual machine. You can work from your pc in terminal at PuTTy client (or even from smartphone) indirectly on your RetroPie, you use roms directly from any usb drive, so the system and roms folder are split. But those are different topics, I just wanted bring them up, in case you didn't know and maybe could have a use for it. What follows is a bit off topic, but from your posting.
Also picked up a Rii mini wireless keyboard and touchpad. Very useful for emulators like the 5200 or Odyssey2.
I use the same Rii mini and its really useful. I mainly use it (besides for some administrative and terminal tasks) for Amiga 500 recently. Its not a full replacement, but for games requiring some clicks and keyboard entries, its perfect. But some games aren't playable (in sense of enjoying), because the touchpad isn't good as a real mouse. I never had a 5200 and Odyssey2, I may get into them now. I also can highly recommend the Buffalo Gamepads. I can see you have some noname version. If you aren't happy with it, then consider Buffalo.
RE: M.A.M.E. Issue After Scraping, Worked Before But Not After
@urko948 The roms / zip files shouldn't be renamed. Mame expects them with specific names, because in the emulator is a database of filenames and other informations. Thats why you need a specific romset for a specific Mame version btw. If you rename anything, then you should do this within the gamelist.xml or elsewhere related. So, you should bring back the original state of roms with original names. Then remove the non working gamelist.xml by moving the file to different place for later analysis.
And then? I don't know. :D Maybe upload the faulty gamelist.xml, so we can check it and maybe see something unusual going on.
RE: Game description in detailed view does not scroll correctly
The power saving modes (other than "disabled") are not compatible with scrolling description text
So disabling power saving solved my text scrolling problem.
I hope this will help others to.
Man thank you! This bugged me for a long time and I always thought it is something with the Emulation Station Themes and just kinda ignored it. Many thanks posting the solution, you helped me at this point.
I wish, there would be subfolders for custom collections
I have a lot of custom collections. There are some collections related to each other, while other type of collections aren't related. In example, I have bunch of collections for different genres and some others specifically for (what I call them for) insider tips. I wish, the the collections could be saved in different folders, like it is allowed for roms. I save roms for Homebrew and for modified games in a different subfolder of systems roms folder.
The way I handle them currently is to prefix all of them to have a group. Because I use Prefix, the names have to be a little short. I have 4 custom collections with prefix "Classic" (acts like as in NES Classic Mini), 14 prefix as "Genre" (like Genre SHMUP), 4 prefix as "Insider Tips" (like Insider Tips for SNES) and currently 3 "Other".
And there is one non categorized collection, which cannot be renamed to be recognized as system collection (got from the option Create New Custom Collection From Theme). But this one appears as a system on the main frontend and not as a list in custom collections, which is exactly what it should does.
Would this be possible or is the current code to complex to integrate folders in custom collection?
RE: World Cup Time
@youxia I remember playing Fever Pitch Soccer on the SNES too. It was more action oriented with the ball catching fire if I remember it correctly. Its so long time ago. But watching it in YouTube, its does look like regular football.
Ahh, there was a really obscurre soccer game I never got to play. It is Mega Man Soccer. Yes you read it right. :D
And while searching the web, I found a game I never heard of: Dolucky no A.League Soccer
RE: Share your hidden gems and insider tips
Found more hidden gems (at least to me) and they look pretty good. Want some of them share with you. Especially the Game Boy Advance games suprised me. I never had one and there are a so many titles I never played on it.
I would say checkout Wade Hixton's Counter Punch, if you like Super Punch Out.
If you want Metal Slug with more comic graphics, then head out to Alien Hominid.
Look for Balloon Kid, if you like Balloon Fight.
Do you like rotating guns on your ship? Then Eco Fighters is the solution.

RE: Do you include PlayerChoice-10 and VS. System games?
@edmaul69 All games I wanted in my list did work, so Wrecking Crew. It works for both, Mame2003 and the NES version. You should try this again.
RE: Do you include PlayerChoice-10 and VS. System games?
This is the list I am talking about: lr-mame2003 Compatibility List
Nice! These are also great games if they are marked working:
jajamaru - Vs. Ninja Jajamaru Kun (Japan)
starlstr - Vs. Star Luster
vsskykid - Vs. Super SkyKid
rbibb - Vs. Atari R.B.I. Baseball
Each of those games are listed as "not tested".
I live in Germany and was never interested in Baseball, but I heard it is a good game for what it is. Its not popular over here. But the other titles looks quite interesting, especially Ninja Jajamaru Kun. I will have a look into them. Thanks for the suggestion. Edit: Tested them. They are working.
Btw, while searching YouTube, i found some info on SkyKid. Namco made the Arcade version of SkyKid named Super SkyKid for the VS. System and Sunsoft ported it over to the NES, naming it SkyKid. Is that correct? I always thought all VS. Arcade games are just ports from the original NES games. I was wrong!
