November 2017 Game of the Month: Kid Dracula
-
Here we go again. The last GOTM, didn't go so hot, so lets take another swing. The November Game of the Month is:
Game: Kid Dracula/Akumajou Special: Boku Dracula-kun
Release Date: October 19, 1990
Developer: KonamiThis game was only released in Japan for the Famicom under the name Akumajou Special: Boku Dracula-kun. It was released over in the States for the Game Boy as Kid Dracula. But we will be playing the NES version.
Here is a link to the translation patch.
The challenge this month will be Frozen Half's Challenge You have to beat the game without using passwords or continues. To show completion, you must post a picture of the achievement on the website.
One more thing: I created an art pack for this game (Box Art, Launching Image and Overlay) for both versions of the game (US and Japan) They should show up in @meleu's rpie-ovl repository shortly.
Have Fun!

C'mon people, let's vote for Kid Dracula!!!
-
@meleu I've actually never played Kid Dracula before, only seen it in videos.
Hell, I didn't know there was an NES Version until now
-
Never even heard of Kid Dracula. I went with Donkey Kong 94.
-
@meleu Let's say that Kid Dracula is the winner, what challenge(s) do you have in mind?
-
@meleu Would we play the famicom version or the game boy version?

I have this one in mind: http://retroachievements.org/Achievement/53780
Not really tough. Just to have something... ;)

The NES/Famicom version. There's a translation hack here: http://www.romhacking.net/translations/169/

@meleu So there is a charge attack? Like Metroid's Charge Beam?
Also
-
I put my vote in for Kid Dracula.
-
Just made it to stage 6 without using a charge attack and picked up the cheevos for the first 5 stages for not using it.
Going to make it my personal challenge to get all cheevos for this game this month.

yep. Like the Mega Man 4 charged arm cannon too.

same here. Let's go!!

I really need to change my binding for reset. Already today, several times I've been charging an attack, only to hit select to change my weapon and have it reset my game. -_-

hehe... I changed it almost 2 years ago. Also, when I got a 8bitdo Zero I removed the quit retroarch from Select+Start. The controller is to tiny and sometimes I wanted to press select and ended up pressing select+start, ruining my progress...

This would be a challenging achievement: Get through the metro tunnel staying on right half of the screen (Stage 5)
I'm having problems to get that one.
-
@meleu Call me boring, but I think we should just use this achievement.

Seems easy enough, just beat the game without passwords.
-
@lilbud what about this one: Finish the game without using passwords or continues.
It's really easy to get many many lives (30+) in those minigames, then beating the game with no passwords or continues sounds like a balanced challenge, don't you agree?
-
@meleu Sure, that one sounds good.
Also, I'll close the voting at 10am EST today
-
@meleu The OP has been updated, this months game is Kid Dracula
-
@meleu I am struggling with that one myself. I can't quite figure it out.
