Retropie Metadata Editor
-
Great :)
Another point I have seen, NEOGEO roms (also zip files) seem not be recognized by the editor. -
@daeks
Are your neogeo zip-files directly in the neogeo folder or did you put them in subfolders?
Can you send/pastbin me your gamelist.xml of neogeo please? -
@amadeus I extracted one example: http://pastebin.com/hQ5yHDkY
edit: I have also found out a "strange" behavior:
- It is possible to filter for "no metadata" and "no image"
- As soon as you have attached an image to a object without any metadata it will also disappear on "no metadata"
is it possible to show items with only an image also on the "no metadata" filter?

Today I released Retropie Metadata Editor v0.1.9.0
This Version contains Directory Support for Daphne an PC.Maybe anyone can test it and give me a short feedback. I cant test it by myself, because i dont have any daphne or pc game on my retropie.
Please note some facts:
- Please make a full backup oft the retropie config share before starting, so you can rollback if somethin goes wrong
- This Version supports files AND folders even at the same time for one platform/system, but it dont supports files IN (sub-)folders
-
Sorry for the delay. The daphne support seems to work great. The PC however isn't working correctly. The software recongnizes the PC folders correctly, its listing all the games. However it will not display the information from the gameslist. I attempted to just reenter the information to overwrite the gameslist but retropie will not display the new information.
Edit: Judging the way the old gamelist.xml was setup, I think you need to remove the <game> </game> tags from each entry and use <folder> </folder> instead. I'm not sure why DOSbox is setup this way.
With Ports and Scummvu, it integrates the folders into retropie by making a .sh file to point at the folders. Therefore the <game> tag works. Unfortunalty DOSbox appears to do things different.

@LiqwdE
Ok, I think its better, to remove support for PC then fully, because rme dont supports the folder xml. -
@LiqwdE You can edit the tags in seconds with a text editor like notepad++, just do replace <game> for <folder> and </game> for </folder>.
In less than 30 sec you have fixed the file.
-
It's all good, I'd leave it as is. Like nismo says there is a work around. Or I can make .sh files
Yeah, that's true. Folder to game so the program reads it (replace all), then just reverse so retropie reads it. I could get off my lazy butt and make some .sh files that point where I need it like ports and scummvm do. Guess I need to go learn how to.

Let me first start by saying that this app you created is freaking terrific. I mean, it has helped me tremendously when cleaning up my game data. Thank you for your ingenuity.
A question. And I apologize in advance if this has been asked before. Ever plan on supporting Neo-Geo via this app? Unless I am missing something.
-
Not missing anything Rox, its missing. That's why its Beta. TONS of Fun. Keep testing and lets the group know. Amadeus does an amazing job at fixing, patching, and editing. I think someone already dropped the neogeo problem, but thanks for the heads up!

@Roxsteady
The latest release of rme added support for Neo Geo: Retropie Metadata Editor v0.1.11.0 -
@amadeus Awesome brother, thank you so much!
-
This app is a godsend! Thanks so much for all your hard work, @amadeus! :)
I am having a problem, though. When I click "Connect To RetroPie," and it runs its scan, it says it finds 0 files for the Genesis/Mega Drive.
"Initialize System Mega Drive
...Roms found: 0
...IGNORED"I have over 700 ROMs in that folder. There's a gamelist.xml file in there, and scraped images in a subfolder. I checked the .xml file for any open tags and found none. I also checked the permissions on the folder and files, and they're identical to other folders and files that are working fine.
As far as I can tell, it should be working. Any thoughts?
-
@LiqwdE Did you recently do the scrape? Same happened to me. I first had to reboot system after scrape then go into the Genesis rom menu in emulationstation. Once I did that, I ran the app and it found all the images/data.
-
Is it possible to mirror the release? Seems that codeplex has some issues :(
-
-
@amadeus will you be adding FBA support in the future?
-
@amadeus Thank you so much for making this app... it's made my life much easier.
In addition to the tool you have to clean up unused images, i'd love to see a tool to remove any <game>...</game> sections of the gameslist.xml where the rom no longer exists... essentially cleaning that XML file and making it "current" to the roms folder.
I can't speak for others, but my XML is full of metadata from games that I deleted the rom set long ago.
-
@Roxsteady
I'm not familiar with fba, but can you not use the arcade folder for your roms?
Because the arcade folder is already supported. -
@amadeus Do you think it's possible to do a web based version of your application? What exactly are you doing over SSH? Anything else than reading and writing to the gamelist.xml? That would support more client types like mobile, tablets, chromebooks and so on.
