Does LED voltage matter for powerblock?

Can 12v LEDs be used or do they need to be a specific voltage?

A 12V LED won't work. You need to use an LED with a 2V forward voltage, e.g., like the one at https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9590 or - combined with a switch - like http://www.reichelt.de/Drucktaster-Druckschalter/S-9156-RT/3/index.html?ACTION=3&GROUPID=3277&ARTICLE=44438&OFFSET=500&SID=13VoFY8qwQATUAAGX0tikd8f28494b7a2d0a864fc4750723de486&LANGUAGE=EN.

@petrockblog so that switch will work as an all in one solution?
Looks like it'll cost a fortune to ship from Germany and I can't find anywhere in the US that has them.
Otherwise that's what I'm looking for, an all in one switch and led.

I have not tried that switch myself, but maybe the one at https://www.adafruit.com/products/1443 will work for you.

@petrockblog That looks like it will, is it safe to assume I don't need the resistor when using the led with the powerblock?
I also picked up an LED illuminated toggle switch from the auto parts store just now, the led can be controlled separately, the LED lights somewhere between 1.5 and 3v based on the limited testing I can do with batteries.
I think I'll get a couple of those from adafruit though as they seem much easier to deal with.

Yes, you do not need the resistor when using it with the PowerBlock - it already comes with its own resistor.
