@edmaul69 I think this is just to act as a power distribution block

Exactly that. The goal is to be able to charge the controllers even if the Pi is shut down.
If all works out I can supply the Pi with power and at the same time send power through the USB cables to charge the controllers.
I am not sure if 1A is enough to get all running but worst case I could use the RPi 3 power supply 2.5A or only charge the controllers when the Pi Zero is shutdown.

@FlyingTomahawk I don't think your wall plug will be the limiting factor, the hub itself may limit output to each device. In that case you'd have to hot rod it by connecting power wires and bypassing the circuitry.

If that should happen then it might end becoming a soldering adventure after all. ;-)

@FlyingTomahawk You're already a chemist. Why not add another talent to your repertoire? 🙂

Looks like I'll have to get me a pair of new charging cables for the controllers. The cable included is the flat type and color is also not matching.

@FlyingTomahawk The flat type of cable isn't a problem for functionality, but yeah, doesn't quite look like the old Famicom cables. I'm sure you can find inexpensive Micro USB cables all over though.

Even though they won't work for this project, those are some nice looking cables.

Just tried to connect the first of the 2 bitdos to the Pi Zero W and as I feared it won't connect. I follow the RetroPie documentation to the T but get this message.

I am now about to try it on my regular Pi Zero 1.3 with Bluetooth dongle which arrived today.
I also updated the Firmware of both controllers to v3.00

Just tried it with my Pi Zero 1.3 + Zero4U (WiFi and Bluetooth dongle) and it worked without hickups or issues exactly as described in the Docs.

Got the second controller installed and setup.
All works flawless with my Pi Zero 1.3 + Zero4U
This is how they show up.

@FlyingTomahawk Nice! So it actually names them something different? That's really helpful for telling the system to always use a certain controller as Player 1 or Player 2. I wish other controllers/adapters could do that.

                              Guys hold on to something.
Remember the co-worker of mine which is the ultimate Hard-off guide? Well he knows that I am looking for Famicoms. This is the picture he send me.

Yes! 4 Famicoms coming my way! More than enough for builds or scientific purposes.
                              He bought all 4 em.

If you have an extra when all is said and done, I'd be interested in buying one from you. :) I know some one was asking about controllers earlier. I wouldn't mind one sans controllers.

I think that the controller itself sends a different name to the Pi. They were meant to be Player 1 and Player 2.
Wondering what would happen with two regular (Player 1) FC30 controllers. Both having the I on it, what would RetroPie do? Conflict because one is already installed?

Got the HDMI panel mount cable today.
The only things left are the 3in1 hub and that damn Mausberry.
If that Mausberry doesn't arrive till end of March I'm gonna build a different switch. :-(

Got the 3in1 hub today and it is smaller than I thought, which is great but it doesn't work as I thought it would.
If I input power through the female microUSB it outputs power through both USBs but not through the male microUSB.
So in short I can charge the controllers but I cannot power the Pi with it.
Then I thought why not try it once with the Zero4U that I have attached and....who would have thought...it charges the controllers even with the Pi shutdown. Duh!
So I didn't need the hub.

@FlyingTomahawk Another part to use on another project! I have tons of stuff like that where I bought it intending to use one way, the project changed or it didn't work as expected, so I found another solution. I think having less clutter in the case will be a better option anyway.

What I'm curious about will be how you will do power switching if you're powering the Pi through the Zero4U. If you switch off the power to the Zero 4U, then your controllers won't charge.

                                        Hmmm...., good point.
That will be a problem "if" the Mausberry ever arrives.
Worst case I just start and shutdown the Pi as it is right now.

My maurberry took over a month to arrive but it did. Also they aren't the best reciprocating info

My Mausberry turned up Saturday, so about 4 weeks, some communication from them would be good.

Downside, I didn't stay sober enough at the weekend to play with it, and one of my solder points has gone on my hub, so need to re do that.

May get a chance to get closer to putting it all together this weekend, just need to work out how to make the Pi see the reset button as an 'escape' button or something to exit emulators, just because it's there.
