[New theme] Super Display

@pjft Thanks, I haven't been able to update from source it keep saying emulation station wasn't found after a long run. My img are already compressed but like you said at 1080 I tried a program and the img were triple the size and bad quality, I just need to figure out how reduce it to 720 without losing quality, increasing size.
-
I absolutely love the theme. Best look and feel for my tastes. Hoping that you can add appropriate menu selection for the other remaining supported emulator systems (as noted on the retropie wiki and the others in the experimental list in RetroPie-Setup. Awesome job so far!
-
@sensei thanks, let me know what system you looking for and I can probably add it, I added ti99 as requested.
-
@pjft hey, I was finally able to update ES. Backgrounds don't rendered on top of others any more however I'm still getting some white main backgrounds even at 720p.
-
@mrharias I'd adjust VRAM for that. 80 is usually a good setting.

Thanks for this, had the same issue VRAM 80 seems to have fixed it. When I hold up or down to fast scroll through the consoles, it also seems to cause some theme issues. It greys out the consoles so I can't see where i am on the list? Any idea how I could prevent this from happening?
-
@jste84 You may try to bump it to 90, I suppose.
Once again, the main challenge with this theme in its current implementation for the Pi is that the artwork is of too high resolution for it to be easily handled by the Pi. My main recommendation is what is also recommended for other themes: make it 720p, and if needed move VRAM to 80.
While they stay at 1080p, when you scroll fast the Pi needs to unload and reload all those large textures at the same time to try to keep up.
I expect that the consoles will eventually show up, it just takes some time, or is that not the case?
For a more detailed explanation, see this post:

@jste84 Try the removing and redownloading the theme tomorrow, like @pjft said 720p for img is the best. I just did the change and with vram 80 theme is working perfect, however is now 200mb bigger (460pm total) thats because the program I used increased the size of the images. I will summit the changes in a few hours. will post here when done. Theme now support nes/snes mini collection.

I thought I had it set to 720p and I hadn't, this fixed the issue! Thanks
-
@mrharias cool so you are updating the theme? I've got it working as per my other post 720p fixed this issue. Thanks for building this. I love the simplicity of it.
-
@jste84 he didn't mean your display at 720 but my images, I already updated the theme is working great now with vram at 80. Im adding this frame for better read.
-
Glad to hear that's sorted. I'm sure others like @TMNTturtlguy, @mattrixk and other theme makers might have suggestions on how to reduce the images to 720p keeping the quality and a low image size.
-
@pjft Yeah thank you for the help. Actually the pictures are a bit bigger but theme still around the same size, I didn't know folder ".git" can get huge in side, its a save to delete?
-
@mrharias oh. Ah, that's not a problem then.
I wouldn't delete it on your development machine, as it's required for all the git states and such. It's all the information on the local changes, branches, etc.
On the pi, you can certainly delete it if you want to. It might mean that you need to delete the entire theme folder before updating it on the pi, though. I also don't expect it to be bigger for others when installing the theme on their own, as I think it's only storing your local changes there.
-
@pjft oh I see I figured and deleted from the pi but like you said I was worry others were downloading so a huge file that is not use... I actually have to delete the theme updating didn't didn't fix the problems. I'm recommending others to uninstall and reinstall for it. After the last ES update and your subjecting I'm starting to like ES more. Thanks again for the help.

Hello, amazing theme. Does it have support for kid / kiosk mode? I just tried to install on a fresh retropie installation and the screen goes white with basic text.
Any advice would be helpful. I would be capable of changing any configs to link the artwork correctly but I am having trouble finding anything.
Thanks for all the time that went in to this theme.

UPDATE: I have been able to merge the settings between the Showcase theme (Which worked well in the child friendly build) with the Superdisplay theme.
This has given me a working theme just as I need it. Still not sure if I have done something wrong installing it originally. But for now I am satisfied. My kids can't get too deep into the settings and I get to use the lovely design of Superdisplay.

I see, well to be honest I'm quite happy with my display at 720p. It seems to make my pi run better. I'm a big fan of your theme and it works perfectly at this res.

@mrharias love this theme! what program/software did you use to reduce the images to 720 and keep good quality?
