Oldroom theme W.I.P. new 1.9 Beta + media packs
-
Great job! I remember when "ETA Prime" did a video on this, I' m happy to see you keep adding more.
-
Hi @Nismo, thanks for your great job!
I can't wait for the genesis/megadrive and snes packs to be uploaded, it would make my retropie install perfect! Any idea of when you'll be able to do it? Once agai thanks for your hard work!
-
Will there be any update to this great theme for the missing systems?
-
Hi @Nismo , just checking in if you're better, health wise.
Hope you're doing great.
-
@Nismo Is it in the themes download directly for the pi?
-
Awesome theme! Love the big videos!
Is there any chance you will create "favorites", "last played " , "Kodi" and "retropie" entries? Right now they are default due to missing artwork and stuff.
Would be awesome! -
Outstanding theme mate, thank you very much! Is there any plans for the "Ports" section?
-
Is there a reason why the retropie settings are messed up?
everything seems to be pushed to the right side of the screen
overlapping, etc. Also hope to get SG-1000, Lynx and PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 in the future
-
Theme looks blank when I try to load it. Does anyone know why? Like this:
-
@sub_atomic You might need to upgrade emulationstation to get it to work.
Trying going into Retropie Setup and update your packages.
-
@hurricanefan That did it. Thanks.
New problem is that the scanlines and screen border appear "behind" the video instead of overlayed. I believe this has something to do with the recent addition of z-index support for stacking images, which oldroom does not use. I don't know enough to fix it myself, can anyone else figure it out?
-
@sub_atomic Hmm, if you have omxplayer on, I think that doesn't allow for things to be stacked right. I'm not in front of a pi at the moment, you can try clicking START and OTHER SETTINGS. Not sure the exact menu screen that its on.
But try turning OMX Player to OFF if its on.
-
@hurricanefan Thanks for the suggestion, but OMX Player was off. You are right, though... turning OMX Player on breaks the stacking order of the CRT theme, which does use z-indexing for the TV bezel and box art. So I'm still thinking it's a z-index thing.
Interesting to see that videos do play a lot smoother with OMX Player on.

This theme has not been updated since z-index support was added. You will need to edit theme to add z-index values to any elements that should be above the video. The z-index value for the video should be 30, so any value greater then that should work.
-
@jdrassa Thanks, but I have no idea how to do that, and I doubt many average Retropie users do. It's a shame such a great theme is sort of broken now.
-
You Sir are Absolutely Amazing!
Love everything from snaps pack to theme to script. Just excellent! Well done and Thank you....now i need to learn how to modify theme for missing console pics for menu layout..
-
I love this theme but it looks like the man nismo has gone awol.
In the meantime my brother and i have modified oldroom a bit, added two systems(ds and pcengine/tg16), and for the systems i use have added z-index support so they should all work just dandy, video should play behind the tv border, and marquees should display over both (if it's a big marquee).
The ds one plays vids but just in mid air so to speak.I couldnt think of a way of adding a ds console and to split the single long narrow video into two parts to play on two separate screens.
So ive uploaded some files.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/k48oxn6fubj0kuu/oldroom 1080p.rar?dl=0
Oldroom.xml main replacement file + replacement theme.xml, bg.jpg (background image) and system_art.jpg for the following systems.
gamegear, gb, gba, gba, mame, mastersystem, megadrive,n64,nds,nes,pcengine,psx,retropie,snes.
The theme.xml has the z-indexing set.The bg.jpg images have had the top left corner darkened a little, as sometimes the bright poster in that spot behind the tv would clash with the game marquee that appears in the same spot. And the system_art.jpg files have been replaced with some ones from tronkyfrans image.
You don't have to use the system_art images or the darkened background images if you don't want, if all you want is the z-indexing support just use the new theme.xml files.
Generally, unzip the rar file and AFTER MAKING A BACKUP, all you should need to do is drag and drop to configs/all/emulation/themes/oldroom 1080p and overwrite the files.Or just pick and choose what files you want/need.
Now to clarify, i am NOT 'taking over' this theme, these are not endorsed or supported changes/additional files by nismo and nor will i be providing any ongoing support for this theme. If you don't know what to do with the files i have provided, try harder.I can't and won't monitor this thread for any questions, these files are provided 'as is'.
Just trying to give back to the community.
p.s.
Alot of the snaps, marquees and boxart you need to match this them can be found over at https://emumovies.com/ and http://hyperspin-fe.com/ .
Sign-up is required, but you should be able to source MOST of your media there to fill this theme out.

@megafacehead can you please post your archive to something other than filehosting.org?
I've tried lots of times now but it's too slow (connection time out) to be able to download from there. -
@aelgen Any suggestions?I don't often upload stuff.
