I'm asking since I use it mostly for the convenience, but I play a lot of fighters and I notice that on some figting games that the control input has to be very precise like in KOF 2000.

Which is why that when pulling off some moves won't work unless I'm 100 percent on point, which is why I ask is if I should increase my default analog deadzone from 0500?

I do but I play a variety of genres on it. I only find I get the occasional lag once I start getting a bit of distance from the receiver or once the batteries in the controller are almost flat. I've found it to be reliable and actually think it's improved since the previous versions of Retropie. At least on a Pi3 and using a genuine Microsoft receiver. I haven't had to change any settings other then activating the DPAD under the config option.

Are you using an after market receiver or controller by any chance? If that fails, I would consider using a wired USB controllers directly plugged into to see if that makes any difference - particularity if playing a lot of fighters and input lag is a concern.

@redbatman I've seen others previously suggesting a Logitech F710 or an 8Bitdo for better responsiveness so hopefully somebody whose used either of these and a 360 wireless one can chime in and confirm that. That's if you want to stick to wireless.

If your hell bent on a 360 controller, I would personally invest in a wired one. I have both and the quality is as equally good.

@redbatman No, but I use a Logitech F710 wireless controller which interestingly enough seems to be recognized as an Xbox 360 controller.
