Theme Invaders (Pseudo Animated) (WIP)
-
While i was working on another theme, i accidentally turned the carousel, from a navigation element, into a graphics element and i thought of ideas how to expand that.
Because, to be honest, almost all Themes use some sort of Logos for the carousel and i find that a little boring (no offense of course), and we already had the option to use custom texts for each system before (like how the Switch Theme by @lilbud shows the System Name on screen) but I'm to lazy to manually edit 60+ files just to do that. Glady we got variables support some while ago, and with those, it's so easy to include the full Systemname.
So a combination of that plus a non logo carousel seemed like a good idea, so i thought what might be a good concept to make use of it...
At first i thought of creating various character sprites and have them run around the earth (because i already had that around the earth thing done), but then i realized that it wouldn't be that good because the characters could only face one direction and it would look weird when they run backwards.
Then i thought of UFOs flying around the earth, and finally i ended up with Space Invaders. I simplified the flying around part and just recreated the straight horizontal flying Invaders.
Then i thought what to do with detailed/video view (that's were i always have problems with), and what i did was just to use the Invader font i used to make the carousel icons for the description text, and put it in as a huge background element. So i got random (based on the game description), scrolling Invaders in the background (Sadly they are scrolling upwards, because that's how the textbox works).
It has it's flaws and i wouldn't recommend using it if you have a lot of systems and/or games. I just wanted to throw it out there to show how elements can be used for something different.
For those who are interested in seeing/using it, I made a separate Repo on GitHub. But i can't tell how/if it would work on a Pi and with custom systems and stuff.
If anyone has any ideas what else to do with it, i might do more work on it.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
