Hey there. Won't work with mame4all, too old. G. Parodius runs perfectly with lr-mame2003, no special settings needed. Make sure you have the proper .78 romset.

Under lr-mame2003 I am unable to get .78 romset version of gokuparo.zip to work. When I launch it, just shows black screen and returns back to Retropie. What is your zip file size? Any ideas?

Tried another rom source? Or rebuilt one just to be sure? It's been a long time but I just double checked and played the game again, works perfectly on mine. fwiw my gokuparo.zip is 5,632 KB

I'll check everything again later, got some time to spare and we'll get you sorted.

Dug around my system for a bit and bingo! Found it, completely forgot about it but thankfully the filename isn't cryptic so that jogged my memory. You need a bios file named konamigx.zip - Gokujyo Parodius is one of the few Konami games that came on a Konami GX JAMMA main board. There were a couple of sub-types of that board, now what I don't remember is where I got my working bios from, so look for one that is 8712 Bytes.

I play Donkey Kong II, both physically and through RetroArch, whenever I get a chance. I recently came across my old Mattel 'Masters of the Universe' LCD game from 1982. Seeing as how it's a clone of the extremely popular 'Dungeons & Dragons' from the year before, it might very well be the best He-Man video game of the era. Good stuff.

Edit: I've also recently been hooked on 'Escape From the Planet of the Robot Monsters' Arcade game. The gameplay is fantastic and the graphics are so perfectly of it's time that it looks like an idealized parody of an 80s arcade game from a movie. I highly recommend it.

@senkun That was the problem, thank you for the solution - rebuild and that extra bios.

Zelda 3, and Uncharted Waters: New Horizons. Absolutely epic game for the SNES.
What else have I played today? Hm. Zelda (NES), Zombies Ate my Neighbors (SNES), Dungeons and Dragons Tower of Doom (mame)
Probably going to be firing up some Wizardry soon as I beat those. I am a sucker for dungeon crawls.

Wow! What a great game! Runs too slow on my Pi 1B but it's great! Voice samples, isometric (one of the first?) and great music!

Lately I'm really enjoying Snatcher for the Sega/Mega CD. I'm quite proud of the fact that I'm nearly done the game and did not use any kind of guide. Of course some clues took me up to 20 mins or so to decipher. There really needs to be more games like this.

Going to play Fear Effect 1 and Fear Effect 2 on the PSX. I owned a copy back in the 90ties but I never managed to beat them. After this I probably play the Resident evil series on the PSX.

I recently beat Mega Man and Mega Man 2 for the first time ever. The original Mega Man is insanely difficult, and I could not get past the Yellow Devil in the 1st Dr. Wily stage without using the Select/Pause trick.

Mega Man 2 was a little easier, and I can see why it's widely considered one of the best games on the NES.

I now have to continue my way through the series.. I think it goes all the way to 10. This will take a while.

                            I AM ERROR.

I'm playing Secret of Mana! It's been a good decade since I last played.

I had some atrocious slowdown similar to emulating it on my PSP, but after my canakit power supply came in the mail, the slowdown vanished thanks to no longer using a 2 amp cellphone charger.

I had a mate over for the weekend and we played through the Punisher arcade game on Final Burn Alpha. He loved playing as Nick Fury, smoking a cigar whilst kicking mobster butt.

                                    image

We tried playing Metal Slug 1 on FBA, but we had some major slowdown when there was a boss onscreen. It was annoying but still playable.

However, the constant slowdown in TMNT and Turtles in Time were so bad as to be unplayable.

I think the SNES version of Turtles in Time is more eye-candy than the arcade one. Unfortunately we don't have infinite coins... :-)

I was playing the Turtles games in Final Burn Alpha. I should try them in MAME (after I eventually set up the controls. I'll get around to it some day), but in the mean-time I'll give the SNES version a go. Cheers.

Been playing a lot of Mortal Kombat 1, just waiting patiently for MK2/UMK3 to work if @dankcushions figures out the audio. :)
