      Hey everyone,

      I got to thinkin....
Alot of things get discontinued now a days after
Something has been out for so long i was wondering will they ever stop selling Raspberry Pi's?
I know they will eventually stop selling Raspberry Pi 3 because after a year or 2 those specs will be outdated...
Im thinking tho will the raspberry foundation keep developing and releasing these wonderful boards or will it all just stop one day and the foundation Will dissapear into no where?

After tinkering with Retropie for so long Raspberry Pi became a huge hobby of mine and i would like them succeed and see futures offerings..
Im scared it will disapear from the market soon
I was gonna wait till a better pi comes out then upgrade since i only have one pi but maybe Its smart to buy a second since im paranoid it will be gone for good lol

I highly doubt it, the very first pi is still being produced and being purchased. RPI's are being used in school, projects and kick starters all the time, so i don't think the rpi 3 would be at this point either.

        Systems: Raspberry Pi 2
        Overclocked: 1050 | 525 | 350 | 425 | 256
My Themes: Metro Theme | Simpler Turtlepi | Future Mini

          No one knows

          Edit
Ever since i received my pi my micro USB port is slightly misaligned Its been working fine Its been months should i be concerned about this and save up for a new one?
Or will it be just fine if so ill hold out till a better one comes out

I share your concerns. I'm actually not interested in their future offerings.. For me the Pi 3B is perfect. It can play all my favorite retro games and makes them look just as good as on an actual CRT TV. I've invested quite a bit of time in creating great games collections for all the consoles/handhelds I used to play in the 90s.
So at some point I'm going to invest in some spare Pi's, so my setup has a secured future. :-)

Pi 3B , 64 GB Sandisk ultra flashdrive, 19 systems, 872 hand picked classic gaming gems :-) Dual shock 4v2

I know not everyone has the same financial situation, however in terms of computers and even retro gaming the rpi 3, and 1,2, and zero are probably the least expensive options out there. In these terms I would suggest that "investing" in them is probably not the right choice of words. If you have concerns, it is probably a pretty good idea to have a backup rpi, it will be a smart "investment" as I doubt there will be future versions or options that will be less expensive.

I'm surprised all the value people get out of a little, primary school trainer boards. It amazes me that they are being used it just about everything you could think of from garbage can monitors to part of a science project on the int space station! The developers mission is to have a simple piece of hardware that a kid or a school system can afford to use and possibly destroy without causing hundreds or thousands of dollars in damage. No, I don't think the Pi will be discontinued but I do feel there will be upgrades down the road. Most everything is backwards compatible with a bit of tweaking so if they stop making 3's i'm sure the 4's or 5's or whatever comes next will be as good if not better than what we have now. Sorry if this is an overly long post but the growth of the Raspberry Pi culture amazes me!!

@retrofreak89 The nes mini was made only to make money. The Raspberry Pi was created to educate. Here is a link to their strategy thru 2018. Remember, this is bigger than just a $35 computer. https://static.raspberrypi.org/files/about/RaspberryPiFoundationStrategy2016-18.pdf

Which is good news to me i want them to succeed and keep selling there boards Its al wonderful thing

You cannot even compare the NES mini to the Pi. Nintendo used an entirely different strategy, they released them in a limited quantity so the people who couldn't get one would buy more retro stuff from their online shop. While the Pi team has a totally different goal. Go look at the official site of Raspberry Pi, it's very popular people are creating very cool projects with them.

I think that the Pi's will only become more powerful in the future. Maybe within 20 years they've released something thats 1000x times cooler than the Rpi3 and probably plays PS4 games lol.

To be honest I had heard about the Pi longtime ago but I didn't care until I saw an article about RetroPie. So far, the Pi3 is literally the COOLEST item I ever bought in my entire life.

for my two cents. the Pi3 will not be going anywhere anytime soon. even when the Pi 4 comes out it will still be made for a bit longer. it has such a large following and people are still making new protects for it. it is dumb for them to just end it.

this is a company who whole point is to educate people on coding/computer science , not just making money

I nearly bought an android handheld device, for nearly 200 euros. I'm glad I found that article about RetroPie just before I bought the android device.

Even if they stop making the Pi's I bet there will be some other company who'll create something similar. There are already other companies making these mini computers, so there is a market for it.
