What wireless controllers are you using for Retro gaming?

I'm currently using 2x Logitech F710 wireless controllers. They work great! No setup issues at all, no syncing or whatever. You just plug in the USB receivers (they look like ultra-tiny USB drives) and away you go. I have been using them for ages now with RetroPie and I can tell you that they are perfect.
I just ordered 2x 8bitdo controllers though, one Famicom and one NES themed since the latest builds of retropie seem to have improved bluetooth controller support a ton.

They, unfortunately, are unfit for classic Mame games. That's because the D-pads on all modern gamepadas are 8-way. That makes Pac Man un-purposely go up if you press left because the D-pad is too sensitive. It registers "up + left" too easily. You need a real 4-way gamepad like the Gravis Gamepad you mention. I had to buy me a wired iBuffalo SNES-like gamepad for Mame.So if you ever find a cheap wireless gamepad with a good 4-way D-pad then I'd very much like to hear from you!
P.S. I personally hate Bluetooth gamepads because they do not react very well. Might be the low power Bluetooth on my Pi. I only buy those 2.4 GHz ones w/ a wireless USB dongle.

I hear ya. BT controllers and the Pi are always such a struggle for me, unlike the 2.4Ghz wireless controllers which are simply plug and play, unfortunately they're a dying breed, seems like all the newer ones are all BT.
Is there a 2.4Ghz wireless controller shaped like the classic NES controller out there? For that matter, are there any which are simple retro style? All the ones I can find now are either PS or Xbox looking, I'd be happy with a simple retro NES-like rectangle.

I like the 8bitdo.com range. Great support in RetroPie now, and a good build quality.
Sometimes the firmware can mean a brief tweak being needed, but usually very small changes needed if any.Please read the Docs before asking a new question.

I use the Nintentedo Gamecube Wavebird. It was the very first 2.4 GHz wireless controller to ever be released by a first party company and is still an ergonomic masterpiece. Getting it fully operational with RetroPie was truly "Nintendo hard".

I was on x360 wiresless which worked pretty good but i recently went with a couple of 8bitdo's. Initially i was a little meh but now i love them although the thumb-sticks still feel a little flimsy for me but over all great and blue-tooth connects easily in the latest release.

Xbox 360 wireless because 2.4GHz works better than Bluetooth.

Currently 2 USB SNES controllers, but I am trying to add Gamecube controllers. They aren't playing nice. -_- I'm trying to put everything into a gutted Gamecube, mostly for the fun of it, but also to have a easy setup.

Xbox360 with a Cheenese receiver. It works perfectly for me. Maybe, I'll buy a XinMo controller to test it in a cabinet project. But, for a few euros a can play with my 3 old 360 gamepads, even I'm thinking to buy another one.

8bitdo nes30 pro and fc30 pro are nice. Sometimes it takes a few tries to get them to show up in bluetooth device list and you need to pay attention to their mac address. When you first scan for bluetooth devices the probably wont show up. Pay attention to when new ones end up popping up after a few tries. They dont usually show up as their names until after they have been connected. Usually their mac address shows up starting with 04: at the beginning. Also if you have other controllers plugged in these will overpower them for the first controllers which in my case i have built in controls so i needed them to overpower the built in ones.

And if so: is its D-Pad truly 4-way or do some moves (like up + left) register as "diagonal" moves (i.e. 8-way)? Because that makes Mario in Donkey Kong take the ladder instead of walking past it sometimes.
