Hacked Snes Classic Edition VS Retropie?
-
Just so you (everybody?) know(s):
https://www.theverge.com/2017/9/12/16293664/nes-classic-coming-back-more-snes-stock
Is it true?
Give it time I'm sure they will hack it soon.
-
@akafox yea Its true..
Also i know they will hack it but im wondering how the emulation is compared to Retropie because snes classic will be 99€ over here the rpi 3 board is 35€ so if lets say the classic has worse emulation and Its more expansive then ill skip it but if its better then ill buy that over a second pi..

I watched a you tube video comparing the Nes-mini to a actual NES and a raspberry pi 3 err "NES" Guys says the raspberry pi was better. I think it's really up to the end user though. shrugs
-
@akafox there are several games the nes mini cant play. So if you wanted to play some biblical bootlegs you are out of luck! I still want the nes mini and i would still hack it to play the entire nes library minus the games that wont play. Not sure how the other retroarch systems are on it.

@akafox Did you really need to view an amateur video about that? /majorfacepalm
Pi wins every time unless you're a dunce for nostalgia and collecting. Or the ones that don't know a pi exists.
I just watched the video. It's hilarious that he didn't spend a few minutes exploring the option of using a different palette. Unsaturated palette is my preferred one. Maybe the devs can set that one as default sometime in the future for lr-fceumm.

I was thinking the same thing. But hey why not watch it?
Yeah I mean they can make Atari2600 a "hundred times" better now. Tech is cheap now. The price of storage was expensive then...now not so much. Plus better tech and software...but that was the point...if it looks better "out of the box" then once you tweak it it will look even better.
Us "old people" know that it is supposed to look crappy to make it look good because all we had was a CRT and blurry scan lines. These "new kids" don't. SO do they understand it looks terrible on the 4k screen they have?..or am I just "picky and old?"
To each his own like I said. You and me might tweak our PIs...and may even know how..but does everyone...do they even care? And like you said WE know that the pi wins hands down...but like it or not it's still an opinion...even if we think it's fact.
However I will not argue over cost vs availability..I don't think anyone can...

The Pi has way more options compared to the NES mini, I agree with what you've said and it is hilarious how they always keep talking about a slightly different color while you can change the pallets.
There was an another clip in which they reviewed a hardware NES emulator and compared it to the Pi, they've literally zoomed in to compare the color of the pixels. And the thing is they really didn't differ that much from each other at all. And when you think about it, from the distance a person is playing he won't even see the difference.
I would vote for the Pi because of all the tweakable options, support for cheating devices, multiplayer, the possibility to use any usb controller.
NES and SNES mini are way overrated. I've seen one guy trying to sell a NES mini for 400 euros, who the heck would spend that much cash on a NES mini?

Every snes game I've tried runs great on the Pi 3B, including games like Yoshi's island (which is harder to emulate due to the super fx chip in the cartridge).
The snes mini probably will be hacked yes, but the amount of storage might be quite limited. They could keep it the same as the nes mini (I think it was about 300 mb), which gives you not nearly enough space for all the great games the snes has to offer.
Also the emulator in the Nes mini was not very good. For example the sound effects on Double dragon 2 were horrible. They might do a lousy job again on the snes mini. You could of course bypass the original emulator again, by installing Retroarch..but I can't see why, because at that point you're so much better off on a Pi.
The Pi3B is cheaper and can do so much more (including PS1 my personal favorite retro system), I would never spend money on those Nintendo products. I've taken the hardware out of my ps1 and replaced it with a Pi 3, looks great :-D

And thus my point on the atari2600 they can do things with it now that are awesome that we wish we had back then. Due to cost though we never got it. Now you can do this with a PI..with the options of software and "better hardware".
But you can do it for a lot less!If you look at a NES mini it is basically a rasp pi 2..custom made with custom front end. That's how all this starts..nothing new. The public makes something the companies make a "sell-able" product...people buy it because it is "official".
A company makes something then the public takes it apart and makes it "better" like the kid (17) that made the white iPhone case and Apple took all his money and then sold it themselves.
Again it's all how you want to do it. My bother-in-law could not understand why I loved PC gaming because it was "hard to do". His playstation was easy and and that is what he wanted. Emulation is not easy.

And now if you look at youtube the snes mini has been "hacked" you can now add all roms you want to it. so.. shrugs just up to you what you want.
