Same game, different systems - does it matter?

An FPS using cell-shading - was available on both PS2 and Gamecube.

The specs of the machines themselves are irrelevant as we are talking about retropie here, but...

Is the ROM for one system likely to offer better graphics and/or performance than the other? If so, what's the consensus on the PS2 vs Gamecube question?

@LandyVlad Short answer is any games that were developed originally for the Gamecube then ported to the PS2 (Resident Evil 4 comes to mind) should be superior graphic-wise and performance-wise on the Gamecube, while any multiplatform games with smart developers would've aimed development at the PS2 and ported to the other systems.

Still, you have to take into account that emulation for the game may not be mature for one system and mature for the other.

@landyvlad PS2 vs GameCube I don't know, but take a look at Super Street Fighter 2 for SNES vs Genesis. Same system, a lot of difference. Some people like more the SNES version, other people prefer Genesis version. At the end of the day, is just a personal preference. Pic the game and try on both systems. The one you like more is the best for you.

The game is an FPS called XIII (highly recommended) I used to play it on PC hopefully will be just as good on RP, as I can;t find it for PC anywhere . I'm not sure which of those categories it fall sin (ie written for one and ported to the other, or multi-platform).

But yeah I kinda figured the answer would be try em both and see.... :)

If you're on a PI you're not going to be able to run PS2 and GameCube emulators unfortunately.

@chewsavedlatin some people says N64 runs with some slowdowns on RPi3, unplayable on RPi2. Based on this, PS2 and GameCube could freeze at startup. The heaviest system RPi3 runs is Dreamcast.

@danielmewhouse In my experience N64 on a Pi3 is hit and miss depending on the game. As I understand it the PS2 and GC emulators need x86 processors?

@chewsavedlatin both emulators needs a SSE2 processor compatible. Some Androids aren't x86 but supports SSE2, running these emulators.

I still have that on XBox, although I haven't played it for years. Good game.
