Thoughts of the MSX here?

So what do people here think of the MSX? I just got into to it today and playing Castlevania (Vampire Killer) for the system. It definitely did seem superior in terms of color and stability over the NES version.

Yeah but it's 100% just a Japanese system right? I've got a rom set of about 800 roms but everything is in jap.
Obviously there are some you can play that don't require you to read or know whats going on to play and enjoy. For the most part though I've avoided Japanese only systems and really only take the roms that were popular enough to play normally or have translations.

It had a limited release in the United States.

Necro-reviving...
MSX was not only in japan, it was also well known in Mexico and in Netherlands.
MSX was a standard, various companies built machines : NEC, Panasonic and Philips if I recall well.
I still have my working Philips nms8280 MSX2+, I think it was built on the Netherlands. A very good computer when compared to my friends amstrad, atari and commodore. -
@mrjordaaany it was intended to be global, but didn’t really take off. I grew up in the UK, and I remember my father buying able to buy me one for on sale for £25 ($35) because they just didn’t sell, and they stopped releasing them very quickly. I think mine was a Sony, but I don’t really remember. It came with a few games on tape and had a decent keyboard and an OK version of BASIC. Don’t remember much else about it.

@douga now I remember better. It was made by Goldstar, who then became Lucky Goldstar, and then LG. I remember it being gray.
By coincidence, I had just come across a ROM set and installed the emulator over the weekend. I will see if I can find any English (or Dutch) language games on the set.

I remember many budget games being availble for it.

I looks through the romset, and there are around 200 individual games in disk format marked as British releases, so assuredly in English. All of the cartridge games were either in Japanese or Korean.
I did a bit of reading up, and many of the games were converted from Sinclair Spectrum versions, as the hardware and graphics capabilities were fairly similar. The games list I looked at seemed to confirm it - lots of classic spectrum games.
