        I have been wanting to revisit this myself for a long time, but I cannot remember why. Space Invaders background maybe? Or perhaps a game that is unplayable in lr-mame2003.

          yes, that's why I asked... you know I've been ( still am) trying to get that right in advmame.

              @udb23 Don't even... drove me insane. I was close to just ripping the thing out and throwing it as far as I could. It was impossible to get all the assets to play nicely in AdvMame. I set them as best I could, deleted a few elements, I think, then left it. It totally put me off setting up the art in AdvMame.

                I have actually had pretty good luck with advancemame backgrounds for games like Asteroids Deluxe, Omega Race, but I am playing these full screen which has probably been easier to deal with than an overlay with background. Space Invaders for me would also be full screen, although rotated, as I have a cocktail build. Here again, background is not as challenging as getting the viewport centered inside your fancy overlay.

                  @caver01 I may well go back to it at some point. It just wasn't happening how I wanted it and it was frustrating the hell out of me. Once that happens, you know it's time to do something else!

                    @jonnykesh Some time ago I asked the developer on Advmame's forum about the incorrect artwork display in the Pi; answer was "With AdvanceMAME 3.5 then everything is rescaled by the Raspberry GPU to the effective modeline size."
                    That more ore less means we have no real control on the resolution and positioning settings in .ART files.
                    :-(

                    3.6 release mentions some graphics fix... did you try with that newer version?

                      @jonnykesh Agreed. I have been playing with a second build now (NESPi) so I might be getting more involved with overlays at some point. I also feel like I want to compare the input lag between lr-mame and advancemame. I am not saying there is something there, but if there is, I'd really like to get the most out of using a bluetooth controller.

                        @udb23 I haven't. But that sounds... positive, I guess.
                        I'm still waking up at night in a cold sweat from the last time I tried so... Hahahaha! I'll give it a go when I get some time to dedicate to it.

                          Same experience and feelings here. :-))

                          If further testing with 3.6 (btw 3.7 is out but no mention of graphics improvements) still won't bring right results maybe we should overwhelm the advmame forum with requests to fix... more voices probably more convincing..

                            @udb23 I'm just waiting on @caver01 sorting it out and the posting all the .art files here for me to use. Nah, I just found it extremely frustrating and the whole thing is not at all documented on the AdvMame site. I got as far as I could following guidance from caver but it still would not behave in a way I expected.
