Rampage the Movie
-
I don't know about a movie but I do love me some R-type
-
@impman66 the movie "the wizard" was basically just a plug for Mario and the power glove. Not quite what you were talking about but still worth mentioning.
-
@quicksilver ahhh couldn't remember the name of the film, only that it was about Mario, and the theme tune that went "I love that you do that Hocus Pocus to me" was by Roxette :-)
-
@impman66 I remember watching the movie as a kid and thinking the power glove was the coolest thing in the world. Those were the days...

what retro games would you like to see made into a Movie??
Polybius.
Forget Mario, Bob Hoskins would have been perfect for this.

@mediamogul oh that's good! Never would have thought of that but would make a great plot. Have you by chance seen the gaming historian's segment on polybius? I hadn't heard of it until I watched it on YouTube.
-
I always kid a little when answering 'Polybius' to a question, but there really are several ways it could make a decent movie. The most obvious is straight horror, but sci-fi could work. Even a faux-history thriller or mystery might work. I'd go see it.
Yes, I have seen the Gaming Historian's piece on the game and liked it a lot. The AVGN did a kind of Blair Witch thing with it this past Halloween that was pretty good too.

@mediamogul Do you know about Hulu's anthology series "Dimension 404"? One of the hour long episodes/movies is Polybius, which I found quite enjoyable.
There is also Ahoy's investigative video on Polybius, which I saw after the one I mentioned above and couldn't get rid of this strange feeling while watching that I'd heard the name before since I'd forgotten the name of the episode/movie and game's name in the episode/movie. I think that feeling I had made the video below even better while watching.
Ahoy's Polybius Video:
Suppose I'll have to check out Gaming Historian's piece on it sometime.

@eckaji Dimension 404, yep shown over here in the UK at the back end of last year, really fun and there were a few episodes that featured arcade gaming quite heavily. Think the films of the 80's and 90's based on arcade/video games generally were all pretty pants. But nowaday's they are a lot better. The trailer of Rampage, doesn't fully (by the looks of things) stay completely true to the back story of Rampage, but the smashing up of buildings and things looks like it does.
I think probably the only two films I really enjoyed growing up in the 80's were not really game tie ins, but had the computer of the day as it's main protaganist, and they were "War Games" and "Electric Dreams" - the song was pretty catchy too! -

There is also Ahoy's investigative video on PolybiusI have not heard of either. I got in late last night, read you post and immediately set to watching the Ahoy video. They really did their research on that one. It was very well done and even reminded me somewhat of the various documentaries I've seen on the Zodiac Killer mystery. I plan on saving the 'Dimension 404' for this evening, but it looks great too. Thanks for the heads up.
Hollywood could have retired from making video game related movies after 'War Games'. I never get tired of seeing it.
