RVGM (Retro/Retropie Video Game Museum) Theme in development
-
I have work a lot to make some cool improvement to the skin :)
- Possible to remove the HELPBAR on the gamelist to save space for description and gamelist.
- New icons to show player number and multiplayer style : Vs / Coop / Alt(ernative)
I found no where any icons to use for multi-style ... i have create them myself.
If some one have some cool ideas and want to share other icon, i'm open. -
Damn, Looks absolutely amazing!
-
Any updates on when we can try out this amazing theme?
-
I updated 15 systems today ... i work on it every days ... i already can share it but it is not done and if i do it i'm sure many people will ask me for systems not done yet, and ask so many questions that will make me lost time to work on it.
You will see when i will release it, i add more stuff than i use in each system directory. If i can found and work on more system photo, more different logo, i add them to let the user choose what he want to use.
I make for the systems the French and English Description and Informations. But there are not perfect because working on graphism take me already many time ...
I search some people who want help me to read and correct english text and why not add an other language. -
look forward to this
-
@darknior I can help you with the English text. My wife is French so she can double check everything also
-
@darknior Do you still need help with texts? I'm willing to do all of them.
-
Here is a new RVGM skin video, to show all the Retropie supported systems i've made.
On theme from one game for each system with background more empty possible, and the hero sprite in front.
With big system logo and many informations ...I've already done :
- Almost 62 systems ...
I have to add 9 more systems :
- MSX 1 & 2 (already draw 1 & 2)
- MSDos (already draw 386 & 486)
- Atari ST (already draw)
- Game & Watch
- Dreamcast
- PSP
- All games
- Favorites games
- Last played games
I have made 6 not sported yet by Retropie :
- Apple 2e
- Apple 2gs
- Supervision, Watara
- Creativision : Maybe trying with lr-mess driver crvision : 80-100% speed
- Interton VC4000 : Maybe trying with lr-mess driver scv
- Amstrad GX4000 : Maybe trying with lr-mess driver gx4000 : 65% speed, some games still feel very playable
More come quickly ...
Now you can try it on with the GIT, and track my updates :
https://github.com/Darknior/RVGM-ES-ThemeCollaborative work :
- I search some one to help me and correct english texts.
- If some want to help and add more language it can be really cool : DE, ES, IT, JP, ...
- For all the systems you already have the FR and US machine, some time the JAP one too ... you can help to add more.
- For all the systems you already have the FR and US logo, some time more, you can help to add more if you want too.
- I'm open to all ideas to improve the theme. I know i must also continue to work on my XML.
NOT ask for theme problems and crash, it's a beta not finished!
And on my PI i have activate all the systems ... and now the theme is bugging, flicking ... ES memory problems :( -
Very nice skin. I'm eager to try it. Hoping the developers will address the issue in ES if it's confirmed.

Yes, i wish, because gamelist working fine, only the Carrousel is bugging. Images are replace by white square and displayed later, or not.
-
Been using this a couple of times last week and i also ran into the problems with the carousel. I don't use all systems (6 or 7 maybe), but i managed to fix the carousel by giving ES a bit more VRAM. On my system 120Mb seems to be enough.
Besides that, a great theme. I love the fact i can see boxart, video and the description in the gamelist. I did found some minor issues with boxart and some spacing issues in the carousel, but this could be my fault as i'm running a older version.

Thanks a lot for your report :)

Woaw excellent, i don't think to try this and you are right, with 120Mb i can now use fien my theme and see all my systems.
But some backgrounds, 4 or 5 are not loading ... i don't understand why?
I also try with 200Mb and it works but it's horrible, many images are not loading :(I don't know really how works the VRAM. Is some one can explain it to me ?
- How many VRAM can we use max? (because with 130 or 200Mb it bug, many white images)
- If i use many VRAM for ES, i remove this RAM to Retroarch ? (because ES is always in background if i understand fine)
Besides that, a great theme. I love the fact i can see boxart, video and the description in the gamelist.
Thanks :)

If you try the last version, can you report me these issues with screenshot or not ?
@duiz Now the theme is near finished, you can take it and try it.
If you can report me the English text problems, i can fix them. -
@darknior Been trying to figure out how VRAM works and how it effects the rest of the system, but it's a bit hard. To find the right value is a bit trial-and-error, it shouldn't be very low nor very high.
I'm sure you get the white images because of how much systems you use. Every system adds up in VRAM usage. This is also stated on original ES website.
Will update to newer version soon, but i'm quite sure problems are on my side. Again, thanks!
-
Set the vram to 100 or lower to 80 to avoid the " white screen of death " . Always an issue having it set to high , especially with a graphic intensive theme, as it seems to suck all the memory to run such a theme.
-
@bytethis So bad on PI 3 with 1Go of RAM a little skin like this have memory problems ...
And strange nobody fix it from many years ... -
@darknior Hi, I have been following your work for a while and I really like this theme. I would like to collaborate with you as far as translating is concerned.
I am Spanish and could help you translate the texts from English into Spanish if you do not have someone in it.I have the help of my sister who has an almost native level of English.
If you want to contact me privately, for all the details.
As soon as the theme design is the best I've seen. Everything very polished and complete. You have taken care of the design, in this aspect I would like to prone some quick changes:
For example, in the console selector just in Sega Master System, I noticed that the logo of the console is the original of the Master System I, I would like you to add the logo of the Master System II as you have done in Playstation where I have I saw that you have the PSX logo and PS One both designs. In this aspect I would like it to be more homogeneous.
Then finally I would like to enter the name of the consoles in USA and EUR for example in Sega Genesis I would like you to add some text right next to the letters of the logo where it says something like this:
Sega Genesis also known as Sega megadrive, that is, a small text next to the logo. I would also like to see it on Turbograft also known as PC engine.Nintendo Nes also known as Famicon etc, Super NES also known as super Famicon etc.
It is a suggestion that I make to make it more purist.
In any case I like how everything is so far.
Excuse my English I do not have too much level, the expert is my sister: D
A greeting.
-
@darknior Hopefully when the Pi 4 is released all the problems will disappear. Looking forward to it !

If it solve the problem ok, i already plan to buy one :)
But i'm not sure because it is not a PI3 memory or processor problem if i understand fine, it's an ES memory program issue.
I don't try it on PC, but i read that with 16Go de RAM there is the same issue :(
Why do you think PI4 will solve this ?@nj180grados said in RVGM (Retro/Retropie Video Game Museum) Theme in development:

Excellent, it can be really cool to have the theme in Spanish :) It's ok for me for sure ;)
If you want to contact me privately, for all the details.
How ? No PM here ... Write me on GIT, open an ISSUE for Spanish translation ;)

You already have them in SMS, I have put the 3 versions, SMS1 SMS2 and Japan first version. But i made one photo for each one.
You are right, by default i will add one with the two versions on same image.
We can do same for Megadrive 1 & 2.Then finally I would like to enter the name of the consoles in USA and EUR for example in Sega Genesis I would like you to add some text right next to the letters of the logo where it says something like this:
Sega Genesis also known as Sega megadrive, that is, a small text next to the logo. I would also like to see it on Turbograft also known as PC engine.Nintendo Nes also known as Famicon etc, Super NES also known as super Famicon etc.I don't understand fine... you want to add also known as right, before the other name of the console ?
Because i always write in first the good name, and below the other names ... but i don't write "also know as" because i will not have the place for it every time. And i don't want to write it some time and some other no :( -
@darknior Great, I'm glad you have it in mind so that all the consoles have all their logos of their redesigns.
As for adding the logos of the EUR systems with respect to the USA and JAP, I'll give you an example https://imgur.com/a/WFPR9 so you can see more clearly what I mean. Examples you have:
Sega Genesis - Sega Megadrive (EUR & JAP Flags)
Nintendo Entertainment System - Famicom (JAP Flag)
Turbograft - PC Engine (JAP Flag)
although I suppose there will be more consoles with the names changed.
What do you think about the idea? Would you redesign the main icon of those systems, right?
As for the translation, please contact me by private message and pass me the texts so that I can translate them.
Greetings.

Yes i will make them, SMS and Megadrive. Have you seen other console i've forgot ?
Sega Genesis - Sega Megadrive (EUR & JAP Flags)
Nintendo Entertainment System - Famicom (JAP Flag)
Turbograft - PC Engine (JAP Flag)
although I suppose there will be more consoles with the names changed. You already have all these names on the THEME. On te top of the info box.
But you are right, you can't see the different logo. You must change your theme language. What do you think about the idea? Would you redesign the main icon of those systems, right?
I will not redesign logo ... i like them alone.
But maybe when all will be done i will add a new sprite to list the other systems logo. At right, near the system list, in vertical list with the flag like you write.
I think it will be better and more beautiful. As for the translation, please contact me by private message and pass me the texts so that I can translate them.
Like i write you there is no private message here, i can't do it.
Please go to the GIT and open an issue : Spanish language
And we will work on it.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
