Chicuelo Theme

Also, I have a proposal for the Amiga and Atari-ST background images. Currently Zool is the Atari-ST image, but actually Zool was released for the Amiga first and ported to the ST. It was also more of an 'Amiga' mascot in my opinion. The Amiga image is currently a version of Turrican. Turrican was more of a multi system game (it was released on so many systems), although it was very popular on systems like Atari ST, Amiga, C64.
I was wondering if you would be happy to switch these images around. So Zool for Amiga, and Turrican for ST? I think it would be a better way round.
Thanks
I agree with that. Another suggestion from me would be Superfrog as Amiga mascot, which got an HD remake i believe so it should be possible to get some good images.
-
And this is also an excellent idea, I absolutely agree with you. Superfrog and Zool were two major Amiga mascots most probably. The only slight downside is @chicuelo having to do a new Amiga image, but you are quite right it got an HD remake which means there will be excellent imagery out there. And I think that's even better having Superfrog for Amiga, and Zool for ST.
If I had a preference, I would say:
- Amiga = new superfrog image in place of Turrican (which could be used for another computer system), ST = leave as Zool
- Swap current Amiga and ST ones around (Amiga = Zool, ST = Turrican)
Having a quick look now, there are quite a lot of Superfrog character images with transparent or white backgrounds which I think you could just lift into a blurred in-game background. Check this out:
https://wasahiro.files.wordpress.com/2014/07/superfroglogo_frog.pngThere are also plenty of old in-game Amiga shots which could easily be blurred to be placed behind, eg:
https://thecompany.pl/res/gra/1375712828-Superfrog-2.pngetc, etc.
I reckon this is perfect for an Amiga image.
Do you think you could do this @chicuelo ?
Thanks!

@movisman
The controller files are transparent PNG, maded with photoshop, Illustrator was used only for the logos that they are svg vector files
I will look foward to those suggestions! But I think better finish all those remaining systems and then modify them! -
-
Yes I figured that would be the case. No worries about finishing the other systems first, I think that's a good idea. Thanks for swapping the images over, I think that is much better. Also thanks for optimising the Spectrum image - looks fantastic!
Having a quick think I believe these bits are some of the outstanding artwork to be completed:
- Background required for "custom-collections"
- A new controller to be made for Super Famicom (sfc), plus theme and logo (which I can do). Alternative to SNES, would use the same background. I wonder if you could adapt the existing SNES controller but change the button colours and logo. That would be most of the "common" variations complete then. Here is an image comparing the two - http://i.imgur.com/b3UOB4D.jpg
- Amiga background "perhaps" to be changed to Superfrog (if time allows, but very low priority until theme is complete)
Plus the new systems (whichever ones you choose to support) I mentioned back in post #455:
- controller and background required, I previously completed all logos and theme.xml descriptions for these.
Also, if ok with you I will work on the documentation/readme a bit more at some point and provide some additional info such as:
- instructions on how to change to a system variation (eg change from pcengine to tg16)
- add in some additional links such as hyperlinks to this forum post and tidy some bits and pieces up a little further
- expand on the features of the theme a bit
- potentially add in all missing systems as 'partially supported' as there is a description and logo in place for everything now
- add some notes on widescreen resolution support (i might - when i have time see if i can get the theme looking ok in 4:3 with a letterbox above and below, without needing to have a second theme for 4:3)
Let me know if there is anything else you would like me to look at.
Cheers!

@movisman
Sounds great, I will work on the systems you mentioned and add super famicom controller too.
Go ahead with the readme if you want -

mhm, I think there is another controller layout for the PAL version. One that has colored buttons and the Super Nintendo Logo. LIke this one. So I'm not sure if this one also should be added, I would prefer it though.
-
Hi,
Ah, not sure if you misunderstood me - the one you linked to is already in the theme as SNES, and this isn't changing.
The one I proposed is for an alternative system in case people want to use the Super Famicom imagery+logo instead of the PAL System. A bit like Famicom/NES, etc.
The current SNES images will all remain the same.
-
@movisman yeah i got this, but the included controller has blue buttons and the Super Nintendo text, which is from the NTSC version i believe.
All I was trying to say is, that I would prefer the one I linked as alternative controller for the snes theme. Once again it was just a suggestion because, like I said, I prefer the Super Nintendo name but with the colored buttons. I don't care if it gets added tho. -
@ectoone
Thats the European version right? I used the Us one -
Have to say, love the them, has that like 'Coffee Table Computer Book Look' Will be applying it to my Pi shortly, just making a couple of graphic changes for myself, and looking to add a Commodore C16 +4 Option in there (Once I recall how to create the SVG file).
Keep up the good work.
-
@chicuelo yes, the european version is identical to the japanese famicom design wise, but it is named super nintendo.
-
Ah ha, I got you, I jumped to the wrong conclusion there so my apologies. You are simply suggesting another controller layout for the primary SNES theme, nothing to do with the Super Famicom Japanese console which needs to be added as an alternative system, gotcha.
I too am also more familiar with the colourful buttons as I am from the UK, but I don't mind which controller (PAL/NTSC) is used. Given that no other systems have alternative extra controllers created (unless it is an alternative system altogether) I don't know if this is lower priority for @chicuelo or not? The PAL controller is very similar to the Famicom one isn't it, except for logo.
Cheers!

Btw, so glad you swapped arcade and name characters around, I use arcade as my main system entry for arcade games and that ghouls image is incredible!
-
@ectoone
What's the name of the Super Famicom system? I have the controller but no idea the the name! -
@chicuelo well, yeah here's the problem. The system would also be snes (unless someone adds its own system just for EU games). So my suggestion would be to upload that controller image as snes-eu.svg (or something like that) to the controller folder and if anyone wants to use it, they have to rename the original file first and then this one.
This is probably other one of my exclusive requests and I wouldn't mind if you don't upload the image. If you do upload it, I'm sure that @movisman can also add that to the readme whenever he does the instructions how to change the system variations.
-
@ectoone
I like the idea, and I think this could be the standard controller for the ones, I do prefer with colors than purple -
Yes, exactly this, as @EctoOne says that controller you pictured is just the PAL (EU) version for the regular SNES system. The current one you have in place is the NTSC (US) version, which is also technically correct. So either controller is fine to use as the primary controller. If you prefer the colours, maybe you could switch out the US purple buttoned one for the multi coloured PAL one. And then keep the US one but labelled as snes-us.png or snes-ntsc.png and then users can switch it over by renaming the files if they so desire. I can add this to my list of things to put in the readme.
I agree with both of you - if I was asked I would say I prefer the coloured PAL controller, but this is just my visual preference because the colours are nice and punchy.
As for the Super Famicom, the controller is a slightly different Japanese variant and there is a different system logo (which I can create). I think it's worth creating this system seeing as you've done Famicom and TG16 as an alternative, etc.
This controller is similar to the PAL SNES one (with the colours), but it has a Famicom logo instead and different fonts for the start/select buttons. Like this:
https://i2.wp.com/www.honkeykongcountry.ee/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/IMG_2950.jpg?fit=1200%2C900
You could possibly even use the PAL SNES controller you already have and then overlay the Famicom logo and start/select writing from another image? (maybe?)Thanks
-
Just seen the PR come through as a notification, I just dropped a comment on the commit as the US one is labelled incorrectly as snes-europe.png. Do you think you could amend it?
Thanks!

@movisman
Done! I use the same logo because its cleaner, its just a detail, only for nerds :P
