@mayk Oh yes, and now started on the audiobook with the kids on a loooong car journey! It ended much as I expected it to, and at least that pre-panders to the Spielberg version so I think it will stay pretty true to that.
Loved it from start to end. Felt like I did watching Kick-Ass for the first time, like a kid all over again. Now to dig out all those games...;)

I've read RPO twice now, and enjoyed it both times. A good, quick, nostalgia-romp. Can't wait for the movie!

i don't really have high expectations for the film. there is a lot of content in the book i doubt they will get the rights to use. that and the kid they cast isn't fat (or slightly chubby) like he is in the book. i'm sure ill enjoy the film and it will look amazing from what ive seen so far from the teasers. But as a fan of the book i will more than likely be disappointed with at least the amount they will not be able to include.

@buddyscott Very much this. I can't see all the subtlety of the book making it on to the screen:(

              MILD SPOILER ALERT

              Anyone seen this?
I must say I entered the cinema with quite low expectations, but I think the book was adapted to movie quite well on the visual front. The OASIS parts didn't stand out to me as CGI-overdone as I feared.

The movie differs quite much from the book though, and I really had my hopes up for a great Joust battle and generally a lot of 8 bit gamesequences, but I guess the generic race in the beginning appeals much wider than an old niche game. I just missed it a bit :)

@andershp same here. I saw the film first then was disappointed when in the book it's actually more like an adventure game finding the keys and gates. I'd have enjoyed that on film!

@andershp I went in hoping it would be faithful to the book, having been screenplayed by Cline himself, but found myself drawn into a new version which didn’t detract from the book experience. ie I think they both stand alone with their own merits. Particularly the film used (won’t put spoilers!) I recognised from the first hallway scene and that alone put a huge grin on my face! I want to both read the book again and watch the film again!

Having never read the book I enjoyed the film, but several I know who did read the book hated it.

Hope to read the book at some point but don't have the time currently

@ruthless4u I would argue you did it in the right order, so I’d highly recommend reading the book now!)

If you haven't already, be sure to also check out the Atari 2600 game that was made, entitled 'The Stacks'. It plays like a cross between 'Adventure' and 'Pitfall!'. It's just too bad that someone already won the Delorean.

I was aware of the contest when it was going on, but had too much on my plate to participate at the time. Between all the various puzzles and programming an actual 2600 game, I still can't get over how much effort was put into it. Such a great promotion.
