What wireless controllers are you using for Retro gaming?
-
Xbox360 with a Cheenese receiver. It works perfectly for me. Maybe, I'll buy a XinMo controller to test it in a cabinet project. But, for a few euros a can play with my 3 old 360 gamepads, even I'm thinking to buy another one.

Gosh I really hope its as easy as the Floob videos for the 8bitdo, I just ordered myself two of them :)
8bitdo nes30 pro and fc30 pro are nice. Sometimes it takes a few tries to get them to show up in bluetooth device list and you need to pay attention to their mac address. When you first scan for bluetooth devices the probably wont show up. Pay attention to when new ones end up popping up after a few tries. They dont usually show up as their names until after they have been connected. Usually their mac address shows up starting with 04: at the beginning. Also if you have other controllers plugged in these will overpower them for the first controllers which in my case i have built in controls so i needed them to overpower the built in ones.

And if so: is its D-Pad truly 4-way or do some moves (like up + left) register as "diagonal" moves (i.e. 8-way)? Because that makes Mario in Donkey Kong take the ladder instead of walking past it sometimes.

@Meneer-Jansen
've played a variety of SNES, NES, Genesis/Mega drive, GB, GBA. GBC, and PSX and the D-pad seem to be Truly 4-Way. I haven't had any issues with anything of that nature. So I really do recommend it. The ONLY downfall I have is with the analog sticks, They are....weird. The left one will work(Although mine seems to kinda get stuck moving down) and the right one, I have no effing idea what it's doing. I'd love to find out how to edit these in some way, but with every other button, not a single complaint. -
I'm using one of these:
Buffalo Classic USB Gamepad for PC https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002B9XB0E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_q9LJxbV3CRYBQ
I'm on the lookout for a decent arcade stick for mame though.

@addyb You might want to check this one

That looks great. Where in the UK can I purchase this Badboy? Amazon unavailable. Looks like playAsia is a possibility.
EBay also have them. I'm tempted :)

I bought mine from 8bitdo US eBay account.
Or you can email them directly for authorised sellers. -
I'm using one of my many PS3 controllers since purchasing my pi 3b last week.

Using Microsoft wireless controller receiver and (2) Xbox 360 wireless Controllers.

I use a PS4 controller as I already own the console I figured out that I don't need to spend extra cash on a controller. It's perfect for PSX emulation. The only problem I have with it is that I cannot use it in Kodi and in the last 4.0 beta version of RetroPie the drivers are messed up. I cant use the controller in the beta.

AFAIK the PS and Xbox controllers use some sort of proprietary way of connecting wirelessly. They are not "true" standard compliant bluetooth controllers. That's probably why Kodi will never connect w/ them. Except maybe when you use an Xbox controller, Windows and Kodi. Windows and Xbox are both from Microsoft.
A whole lotta people here seem to be under the impression that their PS or Xbox controller work w/ anything because they are marketed as being bluetooth.

@PetroRie How do you sync the PS4 controller with the RPi3 without turning on the console?

You mean wireless? I tried it once only by using this guide:
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/2527/dualshock-4-drivers
It did but I prefer to use a long USB cable lol.
EDIT: I almost forgot to mention that the driver of the PS4 controller is very glitchy in the beta version of RetroPie, don't update Retropie. The controller didn't even work in the emulators while it did in the menu. Other people have the same problem. I had to re-install everything.

Gamesir controllers on Amazon are amazing.

@jay81uk
Which controller did you get? I've got two GameSir G3fs and neither will connect to my system. -
There is a great post here that lists many wireless retro controllers: https://nostalgiatechs.com/retro-games-controller-usb-wireless/

@pglamb were you able to make the G3f work?
