@ruckage I actually removed the ags-101 screen from the gba itself. However retromodding and ebay sell the screens. Then you need an adapter cable. There is a 32 pin and 40 pin depending on what board version your gba is. There are 2 ags-101 screens. One with a brown ribbon cable end and one with a white ribbon cable end. The aftermarket screens are the white ones. If you have to use a 40 pin connector it is designed for brown end screen. However the white one works by removing two resistors and 2 capacitors on the gba’s motherboard. I can help you with all that info. Thats what i did on mine. My buddies was the 32 pin cable so that modification wasn’t necessary.

Well I've seen and commented on so much here I think it's time I posted myself.

Forgive me in advance for the flash photography. It's night time currently so there is no natural light source.

This is my Retro glass cabinet. I have been working on it for about a year now. Only waiting on some nice LED strips to arrive to illuminate it all. It's got 5 shelves in total. Starting with Sony Handhelds at the top (im big on handhelds).

          alt text

Left to right: PSP 1000, 2000 (Crisis Core limited edition), 3000, PSP Go, PS Vita behind that.

Sencond shelf is Nintendo handhelds. Left to right is basically release order of their handheld consoles. 3 DMGs, all backlit and biverted too. Plus a Neo Geo Pocket.

          alt text

Close up of the Pokemon stands:

          alt text

Third shelf is a bit of everything:

          alt text

Hard to see due to the lighting and colour, but yes that's a PS4 500 mil edition.

Bottom shelf sections are just all my games for PlayStation and other systems. Mainly PlayStation though as I can't fit it all.
          alt text

Just finished backlighting the Red Gameboy Pocket as well:
          alt text

Man they are difficult to backlight, because they are so dam delicate. Already killed one trying to backlight it, and basically killed this one. It's being held together with thoughts and prayers right now. I consider myself decent at modding Gameboys. Had relatively no trouble with the DMGs. But Pockets you need to be really delicate with.

All stands are from here btw: http://rosecoloredgaming.com/ I would highly recommend their products.

Sorry for going a bit off-topic here.
I just wanted to say it is amazing how much money you can safe if you skip all the fancy looking light RGB/LED stuff. I use pcpartpicker to simulate my PC build and just by removing all the RGB stuff I went from nearly $1000 down to $500. No RGB RAM, no RGB fans, no RGB pc case, no RGB motherboard, no RGB CPU cooler, no RGB PSU.
Since then I made huge progress in acquiring the parts. Still out a few more but hopefully locked and loaded in time for Battlefield 5.

I figured no need for fancy lights since I am the only one that sees the PC. I ain't streaming and I ain't a youtuber so no need for all that.

While not a minty-fresh Vectrex, I had a few more cool things in the last few weeks that I wanted to share.

              Finally "finished" my CGB-101

I also picked up Riviera: The Promised Land

and the third in the Dept. Heaven series, Knights in the Nightmare. (I'm still looking for Yggdra Union for a decent price.)

and just today, what is quite possibly the nicest-condition used game I've ever bought: Super Mario Land.

@obsidianspider so were you able to close up the case and use the power switch on your cgb-101? Ive been wanting to do that on mine but i didnt want it looking ghetto.

@edmaul69 it’s not perfect, but it works. I have some more photos of it at the Instagram link in my post. I was already a bit heavy into the case mods and I didn’t want to wreck it, but apparently others have gotten their stuff to shut perfectly with the custom brackets that BennVenn provides plans for.

@obsidianspider yeah retromodding sells the 3d parts. Just not sure how they go in. And i want to keep the external power switch. Others said you had to remove it.

@edmaul69 You have to slice the switch in half because the AGS-101 screen take up some of the room of where the switch goes, but the switch still works, it just doesn't have a positive "on" and "off", it just slides. I have a bunch of extra sets of the brackets that a friend printed for me. I can probably mail them to you pretty easily.

I couldn't resist buying these Pixel Pals two weeks ago. Since I couldn't find their USB power adapters in stock anywhere in Germany, I ordered them abroad. Batteries are said to be used up quite quickly by the little fellas.

                          Today, the adapters arrived!

                          Pixel Pals with flashlight

                          Pixel Pals without flashlight

I took the second picture because my camera couldn't handle the backlight properly. In it, the reflections in the glass demonstrate best how the Pixel Pals look to the naked eye when lit.

The two still boxed figurines are gifts for two fans of Skyrim and Streetfighter respectively. They don't know it yet. 😉

Absolutely agree, I can see the appeal and if money is no object it's cool to have all the fancy lights but I'd rather put the money to better use. Good luck with your build, it's going to be great with that graphics card. What CPU are you planning to go with?

                              My setup is gonna be

                              Ryzen 5 2600 (overclocked)
                              AsRock B450M Pro4 mATX

Asus Strix 1080 Ti 11GB OC
                              240GB SSD
                              2TB HDD
                              FSP AURUM 600W 80+ Gold
                              Zalman Z9 Neo case

I didn't go too crazy on the CPU since i spend a bit too much on the GPU. But i might upgrade to a Ryzen 7 2700 at a later time.
At least i won't be bottlenecked on the GPU side.

Looks great. Is a battery pack pretty much a necessity with the AGS-101 screen -I imagine it uses a lot more power than the stock screen.
I hadn't heard of the EZ-flash omega. I already have the EZ flash IV (actually 2 versions of it - the micro SD version and the old mini SD version) but I'm tempted to get an Omega now if only for the included half height shell as it would fit flush in my DS Lite.

@obsidianspider load times are way better than my m3 perfect.

@ruckage it does have better battery life than regular batteries. It is also better at controlling the gba’s led light. With aa batteries the red and green led’s would flicker red green a lot. Or it would be red while the my m3 perfect card was loading. As far as the ez flash omega it is a little wonky with trying to get folders to show up with a lot of the roms. All the gbc games workedin a gameboy color folder but all the gb and gba games had issues that the folder wont show up with a lot of the roms so i put my gb and gba roms directly on the card. I would like to have all of the roms when i get a bigger card because each folder has a 512 file limit and trying to get all the roms to play nice with the folder structure will be a lot of work.

I have quite a bit of loose Gameboy carts. A while ago I seen a video on making custom cases for them (and TG16) using old tape cassette cases. Long story short, last time I was at my local game trading spots, I swooped up on a few free cassettes laying around and thought I’d give it a try. I’m quite impressed on how it turned out. Took 5 minutes resizing image template in Photoshop, a pair of scissors and some flush cutters.
