The port has already been made :)

That's really slick! Several classics there. There's another one from that era/genre that I always liked called "Heart of Darkness". It's similar to Flashback and Out of this World/Another World.

I guess it's the same guy behind it. Out of this World/Another World and Heart of Darkness. No wonder it had similar elements. That might be another good addition since the other two games are already ported. :)

        Eric Chahi

        Game:
        Heart of Darkness

Wow didn't know about the collection.
So thank you. It would be fine if some of these ports will be native available in RetroPie.
I saw that "Chocolate Doom" is also installable. So instead of "Crispy Doom" we can run Heretic and/or Hexen - I was able to run it via PiKiss (search via Google)

          Thank you for the info

Thanks for that information. It's one of my favorites. True classics for sure. I remember playing it via Windows but I imagine PS1 would be just as good. Does the Playstation emulator work good on the Pi? :)

It should work just fine on both Pi2 & Pi3 in my opinion :)

Thanks Brigane, I never used the Playstation emulator but now I have a good reason to test it out. :)

Yeah it wasn't a performance thing or anything like that. I grew up mainly with the Commodore VIC-20, 64, 8086, 8088, 386, 486, Pentium, II, etc. but not so much consoles until later in life except like the Atari 2600 and ColecoVision . I'm a bit of a PC guy at heart but still very much enjoy consoles. This thread kind of sparked the idea of replaying some of those old classics via console vs. DOS so I am trying to get it up and running on the Pi. :)

To be true I am not a big fan of the PSX. There are some really good games available but most they are pumped up with video and audio.
Video format is in most cases a SMK format and audio is red book. So the PSX games are often bloated with unnecessary data.

So for me the best game devices/consoles were the arcade and the SNES/Genesis. I possesed one Atari 2600 even with PACMan .... in my memory the games were much better :) I think it's the emulation that lacks here, not the games :D

I grew up with an Amstrad CPC 6128, of course the Commodore 64 game titels were much better.

But if you want to play PSX: The conversions of Syndicate Wars, Hi-Octane and XCom are close to the PC versions. So maybe you can deal with them.

Some classics, I will definitely check the conversions out. I have a soft spot for the C64 that was smack dab in the middle of my adolescence. My brother was more of a console guy so I do remember hanging at his place playing NES, SNES and the N64. Castlevania was a big one for me on the 64 but there's still something wrong with the overlays or something in emulation at the start but it's plenty playable.

I agree there's something to say about simpler times, simpler graphics & just simpler game play that works for me to this day. I suppose it's more tied to my youth and the guys I hung out with playing than the actual game, probably both, but either way I still get a lot of enjoyment out of the simple plain blocks & shapes of some of those games back in the day. I sure miss arcades. :)
