Chicuelo Theme

Tough choice that, I like both too and they would both suit the generic "ports" image.
I think I'm probably edging towards the Cacodemon because it's so recognisable, and the character itself is really unique and the detail comes across really well in the artwork.
Probably given the choice, I'd keep the Cacodemon and maybe try to utilise the doom guy elsewhere? It would be a shame to waste it.
-
@movisman I agree, I do prefer the caco, but Its a pity to left the doom guy unused. Maybe there is a system, computer or console in wich Doom was ported and it still remains on the theme. I will look forward

@chicuelo, AM port v1.0 is pretty much done. Would it be ok with you if i upload that on github?
Since AM doesn't follow the short names like ES (gen, nes etc) directly, I had to rename everything to standard titles (like Sega Genesis, Nintendo Entertainment System) so users could simply download and use the theme.
-
Yeah, I had a look at the systems it was ported to and they are already covered - including PC/Dosbox (which is Duke Nukem).
Hopefully it can be reused on another system. It is a pity indeed to leave him out though, however I still prefer the caco image and really like it's colour. Unless you have upload him as an alternate character jpg (named something like ports-alt.jpg) in the character directory, that way advanced users can switch them if they wish?
But if you are looking to keep the directory clean and free of excess / unused imagery, I reckon just keep it to the side and hopefully there will be an opportunity to use him soon. Will keep thinking!
Cheers

@rand0m Sorry I don't understand your request, do you mean renaming all the systems?

@EctoOne I think creating a new xml would be great, so the ones who want that settings don't have to mess around with coding and all they have to do is renaming the xml
That is not what I meant when I talked about a new separate theme.xml.
I suggested to move the original file to the assets folder without any changes. And have a new one that would work as a config file.
There is no big code the users would have to understand, just some values they can change. Which are described in comment sections, like in the post I've made before.
I believe I have 4 or 5 options and if you still want the rename version, I had to create all those variants and I personally think that this could cause more problems than editing the file. I don't know what file would be read if someone forgot to rename one file to theme.xml or made a typo.
I will create a new branch in the next few days and you can take a look at it.
-
@movisman I think I will maintain the doom guy in the freezer by now. Maybe in a near future Ill find a system for him!
-
@EctoOne Sorry, but what benefits will give this changes against the actual xml in the main folder? Sorry but this is not my strength
-
@chicuelo I mean I have renamed the systems on my port of your theme, Attract-Mode does not support EmulationStation naming convention of short names directly. I will upload the port on my repository (it won't change anything on your repo). Since its your theme I want to make sure you are ok with me uploading the port on github. It will make it easier for community to keep track of port.
-
@rand0m will this then merge with the main branch? it will affect the normal use of the theme for those who install direct via es-themes?
-
@chicuelo not at all, it is completely separate. It won't merge and won't effect ES users in anyway.
-
@rand0m Ok, go ahead
-
@chicuelo Thanks, I'll link the page to you once I upload the theme.
-
Wow lots going on here. What's the TLDR? Big update to this theme? Theme split into two versions?
-
@ohmycommodore Not at all! I am only porting the theme to AM. Theme is Chicuelo's hard work and all the credit rests with him, something which will be listed in very clear words in my repo.
-
Chicuelo made some updates to the theme by adding a load of new character images, which makes the theme extensively supported - there are only a handful of systems missing now.
I also made a few tweaks to the theme.xml to improve a couple of things, so there has been plenty of discussion happening.
Also other users are making variations of the theme and putting together their own ports, and everything is being pasted in this thread - so there are a lot of posts!
Cheers

Hi guys
I have downloaded this "Chicuelo" theme and I really love it, its my favourite theme by far.
But I was wondering how do I change the color of the text at the bottom of the screen? Its very dark grey coloured font, but cant see it very well. I wanted to make it appear white. Can anyone tell me how do you do that?
Also if there is an update to the theme please with new features etc, please if someone post the link where I can get the newest version.
thanks

You can just update the theme from the RetroPie script to get a new version.

Do you know how I can change the color of the text that appears on the botton of the screen? its dark grey text, but the problem is the background color is grey aswell. So it blends into background. What would I need to change in config etc?
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
