RetroFlag GPi Small Screen Super Retroboy Theme

@SinisterSpatula Did you have to re-encode any of your preview videos to be smaller?
-
@HurricaneFan Yes, I used FFMPEG to re-encode them down to 160x120 resolution. It's not absolutely necessary as 640x480 will in-fact play, but they will load in faster if you do. The major issue I had was with an audio bug that was causing the videos to stutter (even at 160x120). I had to play around with my audio settings in ES a lot until they started to play smooth. Changing OMX player to ALSA HW 0,0 was the final setting, but it seemed buggy like I couldn't just change that and expect it to start working, I had to try a few different audio settings and then put it back to that before it started working. Very strange. I'm on Retropie 4.4 so the bug might just be in that version, maybe it's fixed in 4.5.1 but I haven't been adventurous enough to try that version just yet. :)
-
For me it is not working, no logos, no background, only writing. Which version of retropie does one have to install?
-
@Cybermen I believe it only works with 4.4 and up
-
Can this be downloaded from the themes manager or does it require a manual install?
-
@simpleethat manual for now
-
@Super-Retropie I assume that "for now" alludes to it being available through the gallery at some point? That would be super convenient
-
@simpleethat I can always hope that It would be added to the ES themes menu but it’s not up to me personally.
-
@Super-Retropie You could always make a pull request for the es-themes.sh page. Thats how the themes get into RetroPie.
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/blob/master/scriptmodules/supplementary/esthemes.sh
-
@HurricaneFan I will indeed look into it
-
@fastlowrex Do you have the ability to get this added to the retropie install list?
-
The theme repo name needs to be changed to es-theme-[name] before it would work it looks like. I can do the pull request or anyone can, but the repo name has to match the official naming style. edit: Yup, this confirms it:
https://github.com/$repo/es-theme-$theme.git
-
Okay, pull request is created: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/pull/2808
-
this is really a great looking theme! I just finished my work on the pixel theme to match it the GPi display and I'm really satisfied with the result, the layout is close to this. But then I come on here and see this and be like "welp, these hours could have been spared"
have you used any specific options when converting with ffmpeg?
edit: my only critic is regarding the font size of the developer and release. Maybe the upper right box could be made a little bit smaller so the middle box can be expanded, so that 2 lines of 0.04 font fit easily, and bigger ratings vertically-centered, just my 2 cents :)
update: the rating stars are per default not as big as in the picture, but it can be fixed by changing the size of said in the xml.

@SinisterSpatula Do you have a discord to kick around ideas for the GPI case or do you primarily use facebook?
-
@quicksilver yeah, I'm hanging out in the Gpi Case users Discord, here's the info: https://www.facebook.com/groups/401660300458844/permalink/433964323895108/

@bebeidon This is the exact way I convert the video snaps: https://sinisterspatula.github.io/RetroflagGpiGuides/snapsconversion

@SinisterSpatula @Super-Retropie
Thanks for your premade image for the GPi-case
It's solid and mostly correctly setted. Thanks for this giant prework! For the moderators: This image contains NO ROM NO BIOS or any other copyright protected data!

Looks great, I will definitely use this once my GPi is in! I like how it'd complement the look of the Picade.
Just to be sure I understand correctly: this theme is now in the latest RetroPie install and can be accessed through the theme manager?

If anyone after me comes here with the same question: it's in the theme manager but with the current RetroPie image, you're going to have to update your packages before you can see this theme in the list.
Looks great, thanks for the theme @Super-Retropie!
