      Hi all,

Apologises if this is documented somewhere but I haven't been able to find it so far. I've got retroachievements working and it's a lovely little extra to add to games on here. Especially whoever developed the pretty looking box that loads up now since the most recent update, makes it look very professional.

My only question/suggestion. Has anyone worked out how to make a sound file play when the achievement is reached? Similar to how achievements work on modern consoles. That would be a nice addition. I guessing it would use mpg123 but how would you go about getting it to recognise the criteria has been reached to play a sound?

      Thanks!

This is a RetroArch specific feature and I don't think sound it's supported at the moment.

@retropieuser555 digging up this topic just to highlight that since RetroArch 1.9.0 (released in August-2020) it's possible to play a sound on achievement unlock. You just need to wait that version reach RetroPie-Setup scripts (it's still in 1.8.8).

Letting the instructions here for future reference:

In RetroArch v1.9.0, you can enable it in the Achievements menu:

          unlock-sound

You can also customize the sound by replacing the {RETROARCH_DIR}/assets/sounds/unlock.ogg file.

Accepted formats: ogg, mod, xm, s3m, mp3, flac, wav.

@meleu That's a great find! Just tested it on retroarch on my Mac and it works nicely, even managed to change the sound file thanks to you!

I can't remember but I think I might be running retroarch 1.9 on my pi4 anyway as I manually updated a while back. I'll have a check next time I use it, Thanks again!
