PS1 build
-
I have wanted to put my pi in a console case for a while now but I have struggled to find affordable controllers with analogue sticks that would match with a retro console style case. Then the light bulb went off in my head that playstation controllers are cheap so I should be looking for a PS1 case. As the PS1 was the first console i actually owned when i was younger it made perfect sense to me to do this.
My aim for this was to have it looking as original as possible which meant having the controller ports on the front working as well as the power and eject buttons.
Part way through as i wanted to keep it looking as original as possible that meant having the power and HDMI out in the same spot as the original ones which wasn't easy as there was not a huge amount of space to play with. There was a degree of butchery needed with a stanley knife and a rotary tool to get everything to fit
Giving it a quick test before screwing the top back onto the case. I decided that if I could make it fit i would also keep the CD drive. It now houses a USB port. To make transferring ROMs easy they are running from a pen drive mounted inside a PS1 memory card.
The finished article nestled in the TV unit. All in all I am pretty happy with it. the only thing I wish I could have done better is the HDMI out on the back but at least its out of view.
