[ES Theme] OmegaDrive (updated to v 1.4)
-
I've been working on this theme for about a year, with literally hundreds of hours a work put in to it. This theme has a home screen with a "tabbed" style interface to help with organization. Each system view has a unique look / design to reflect the style of each console, etc.
There are some special features, including multiple color choices for GameBoy Advance and GameBoy Color. Also with some arcade systems you can choose your button and joystick style (Sanwa or Happ).
This is a very HEAVY theme, so you will likely need to adjust your VRAM settings in ES to avoid flashing screens. I recommend 160mb.

@Arcanthur Does this have support for all retropie systems? Are you going to submit a pull request to retropie on github for this?
-
Great looking theme! Will there be a 4:3 version?
-
@Unknown It currently supports about 45 systems, and I'm planning on weekly updates to add more. I've never submitted a theme for the retropie git, but I do plan on looking in to it
-
@Clyde Thanks, 4:3 isn't currently planned, but I may try to add support in the future.
-
This is so clever! It's clear when a designer is involved on this.
Just a thought: instead of using "tabs" for the type of system, will it better using a simple highlight? Due retropie lack of indication I think people who have disordered systems will jump from tab to tab, maybe a top bar with all kind of system could enhance that info. Are you having any issue on the pi with this artwork? I have a theme with some big images and it lags with low vram. to improove the performance i had to make some adjustments and avoiding 1920x1080 images.
Great work, its just beautiful!

@chicuelo Thanks for the input! You've got some great themes as well. Yes I had VRAM issues, and made a note about it on the readme to change it to 160mb. ES doesn't do a good job of handle this many assets otherwise.
As for the tabs, I know some people will have their systems ordered differently, and the tabs would move around, but I liked the idea of having the systems sectioned off like this. I tested moving the systems out of order and the jumping around didn't bother me, but I do appreciate the suggestions. I might do alternate styles at some point.

I hope you do that! It's a great theme!
-
@Arcanthur I have the same issue too, and I also have to split memory in order to get a decent performance
-
@chicuelo Compressing the .png files helps some. I use PNGoo, or you can use an online compressor.
-
Just throwing in a "Good work!" here :) Looks very good!
-
@Arcanthur Yes, I have compressed all the art and tryed to use svg files when possible. It would be great if retropie could handle themes better so we could give that extra touch to the interface.
Love your theme I will give it a try!
-
THIS IS GORGEOUS!
-
I can't believe I'm saying something like this again so soon but this is one of the most beautiful themes. Well done, truly well done.
-
Themes like yours, @Arcanthur (and @chicuelo 's too) make me want to leave EmulationStation running without playing any roms just to admire the attention to detail and variety of all the systems' artwork.
Bravo sir! Bravo! -
This is beautiful.
Have you considered making a version for people that don't use Videos? I'm thinking a Detailed view that just moves the box art where the video currently sits, and then using the original box-art space for the description?
Either way, it's still a wonderful looking theme, nice work!
-
@mattrixk detailed view support is there. When you scrape, <thumbnail> is the screenshot and <image> is your boxart, so you will still have 2 images :)
-
@Arcanthur: Oh cool!
-
@Arcanthur , please let me know if you'd like to have any assistance with other systems. I'll be happy to help!

This is a amazing theme
