For your video script, with modified settings of below look great on a 1080p screen. I can see my my RetroAchievement and other notifications perfectly without any obstruction from the overlays.

My default retroarch.cfg has video_font_size = "32"

Nintendo Gameboy:
video_font_size = "24"
video_message_color = 000000
video_message_pos_x = 0.335
video_message_pos_y = 0.233

Sega Master System:
video_message_pos_x = 0.175
video_message_pos_y = 0.06

Sega Mega Drive:
video_message_pos_x = 0.20
video_message_pos_y = 0.09

NES:
video_message_pos_x = 0.175
video_message_pos_y = 0.065

Super Nintendo:
video_message_pos_x = 0.20
video_message_pos_y = 0.09

I know it's not concise yet, but I'll work on other and share if you think it might be a good addition to your script?

Just playing around, I've also made a much better Atari Lynx and added NGP\NGPC overlay. I need a better effect, but I'm having issues finding one to fit that is evenly square to match my real NGPC. I don't fully understand how the overlay effect works yet.

I spent hours last night tearing my hair out over the overlay effect. Does anyone know exactly how the effect works when used in a border as oppose to filter and how to create it?

I copied and pasted a few screen cut outs from other borders onto mine, which worked but look crappy, as above. Seems to be getting the scan line\lcd pixel effect shape right and making sure it's smartly using the PNG transparency color, usually straight black

@Ekstreme the ng pocket pic isnt useable in the form you sent. your first problem is you cant make a filter in a .jpg. it needs to be a .png. second you dont put a filter over the whole image. and you cant use a program like mspaint. i just cut out one of the lcd screens from one of the overlays already made and carefully cobbled together a 1080p version and use that to cut out pieces to the size i need. these settings should work for the lynx.

@edmaul69 Sorry I'm a bit confused. The jpg was the Lynx file, I've upload the correct one, sorry about that, I was in a rush. This does have my attempt at an affect in it.

So how exactly do you create the image to have the correct looking effect? I thought it was a matter of creating the image cutting a display area out of the png leaving black (the png transparency color) then putting the effect over that area?

@Ekstreme so i just took the transparency filter used on other overlays and carefully made a full 1080 image of it so i can cut out a piece at any size i need. The transparency piece has to be done in a program that wont make it a solid color like ms paint. And it needs to be done as a png. I can post an image of the 1080 lcd overlay if you would like. Did i do the lynx how you wanted it? I tried to make it the best max lcd screen size so it wasnt super tiny like the original lynx overlay was.

I haven't tried it yet as I was a bit confused. I can see the imaged has dithered a little bit too, but I can fix that. Other than that, it looks like it will do the trick.

I actually just quickly created my ones in Irfanview, but I'd use Gimp to do the final versions. Irfanview is not really an editor

If you could post the overlay you use that'd be great and I can get cracking. Might be best as an archive as I'm not sure if this forum compresses images.
