Epic Noir - Dark Mode Theme
-
@chicuelo i've noticed i don't have any png for system in /_art/indicators path.
There's a call in theme.xml to those files for every sytem:
<image name="indicator" extra="true"> <path>./_art/indicators/${system.theme}.png</path> <tile>false</tile> <color>F8F8F8</color> <origin>0 0</origin> <pos>-0.002 0.15</pos> <size>0 0.70</size> </image>
And yes, the bigger system name text works like a charm on a 16:9 screen.
16:10 doesn't like it :(
-
@daviduco Thats strange, maybe you could reduce the size of the font a bit.
In order to run, you have to rename the dot files according to your systems order
-
Love this. However, why is "FAVOURITE" the "X" button?
-
@dirty_monkee I think it was a design mistake. I will fix in some days
-
If you scroll up a little you'll notice I have corrected the X for a Y and uploaded it here.
You can use that one for now or wait until @chicuelo fixes it officially. -
@panja
I found this after I put posting my reply and have used yours, thanks. Is there a way I can remove the indicators altogether as I have more than the allocated systems and can’t be bothered to add more via photoshop/inskape.

@chicuelo
Awesome! Looking forward to your new images. -
I was wondering if someone could walk me through how to rename the .png files so my indicators show up in order. I have gotten to the file manager page that shows the .pngs I need to change and am pressing F6 but get stumped at that point as to what I should do.
-
@cress5 You have to rename the files inside the indicators folder from 1st-system.png to 16th-system.png, Eventually, 1-st-system should match the first system you have listed in your es_systems.xml, 2-nd-system with the second and so...
For example: if mame libretro is the first sistem you see, you have to rename "1-st-system.png" to "mame-libretro.png", if your second system is nes, you will have to rename "2-nd-system.png" to "nes.png"Its very simple, the name of the png indicates the position of the white dot.
NOTICE that if you have more than 16 systems they will lack of indication. -
So I accidentally stumbled across this theme. WOW!!!
I was in the process of switching over to using this theme when ES started crashing. I have a 4GB RPI4 with 39 systems. I did the GPU split and VRAM adjustments but ES sill keeps crashing.
Any ideas

@peligwe Try to re-install/update the theme.
-
@mitu Doing the lastest update of retropie and theme finally fixed my issue. Thanks.
My next question is, could the following systems be added?
Philips CDi
PC-FX
Sony PSP Minis
Sharp X1 -
@peligwe Not plans on adding new systems, but you can manually ad your own by cloning existing ones and changing the artwork!
-
@chicuelo Right after I posted my question I realized I could just add the systems myself :)
Before I start creating my own system themes, could you provide the details of game name in the top right corner of the system view? Font type and size?
-
@peligwe You will find a xml inside each system folder with all the texts of the theme, also the font and the size
-
The text I am referring to is on the poster in the top right hand corner. (I figured out the other text was in theme.xml)
-
@peligwe You mean the name of the game? that text is pixel based, directly from the jpg
-
@chicuelo Thanks, much appreciated. Just the info I needed to add systems to my retropie build.
-
Love this Epic Noir theme!
I tried to work out how to ask you directly via PM on the Retropie Forums but couldn’t work it out :(
I have a Pi 400 4Gb and have tried to install your Epic Noir theme via the Theme installation method within Emulationstation AND via Github https://github.com/c64-dev/es-theme-epicnoir
and for some reason this crashes Emulationstation when I change the theme using both ways :(I'm sure I've done something wrong but wondered if anyone had the time to have a think what could be stopping this beautiful theme from working for me?
