For ROMs that don't have a "cocktail mode" in the MAME menu you may be out-of-luck. I'm using a shader on the arcade cocktail cabinet that I put together. Mine is custom, because I was going for "lightweight" so it's not traditional. Without the control panels it's 24.5"x 18.5" x 6" and has four-way joysticks. I just wanted classic cocktail cabinet games with "alternating two player gameplay" functionality.
(I have a handful of two player simultaneous games [mainly Atari2600 & GBA] for which I use a shader to mirror the video for each side. You can check out the article above.)

@iandaemon I have put the split screen shader in and have noticed i will probably just use other games as 1 player for the moment. this was a whim project bought the pi end of jan had spARe wood laying around so i made this.. looked at my pool table and copied learning retropie has been fun though.
i Am all ready thinking of a daphne cabinet lol trying to get cliff hanger going
