Add lr-mess as one of the emulators for Game & Watch
-
lr-mess should be added as one of the emulators for Game & Watch out of the box.
It's G&W "roms" (if the terminology can fit) are more accurate and configurable than the old simulations and does have more games available, including titles such as "Zelda"
It runs well on the Pi 4 as it is (tested on a overclocked unit, no idea on default settings)
It gets very slow if you add the backgrounds, but easily fixed by setting alternative rendering mode and use the smaller resolutions.
Personally I'm very happy with it, so I think it should be more accessible.

Haha,
Good post.I was actually planning on doing the same post as you did.
You were a little bit faster !!! -

Well, that is simpler said than done.
With game&watch you have to use background overlays or artwork for that matter. So when you want to do it simple you will be lacking background overlays or artwork.
So basically what I am saying is that everyone wants to add more and more.
So ultimately the simple script becomes something that you can't work with.
Or you have to add numerous amounts of of scripts to please the desire. Our script works the other way around.
It depends on the data of mame and lr-mess and therefor can do all from the beginning.
Then we have tweaked things and added some stuff.
So now we have just 1 script which would normally be 38000 scripts !Using it is not that difficult
And if you don't understand than we can explain or help. -
I mean Vectrex doesn't come with overlays either and i don't need to edit the system's config to add it's emulators.
I don't see how the existence of scripts to help ease the setup invalidates the fact that mess isn't listed as one of the emulators that runs G&W.

No problem but I think we see things from a much different angle.
I don't know the exact answer, you should ask a "global moderator".
But, I think, it basically comes down to how much time the developers can or want to spend and what they think what should be added or not.And when something isn't there, some people become developers themselves.
Perhaps you can contribute to the open source community too.I think you can just add
gameandwatch
in line 50 of/home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/scriptmodules/libretrocores/lr-mess.sh
I haven't tested though !
Let me know if it works for you, perhaps we can learn from this.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
