Need Advice on a 4:3 monitor for Retropie and Raspberry pi4
-
@Ashpool
Sorry my lack of research about built in sound from these older 4:3 IPS monitors.
Do you have any known brands of hdmi splitter or type of analog audio lead i would need?From my understanding the monitor should play really well with all the supported systems on Retropie except possibly DOS any user experiences with the dell monitor would be appreciated before I purchase one.
I could live without the DOS games and just play them on a different display.
Many
Thanks

@Simrose Sorry, I've bought my splitter (from a brand named SpeaKa) back in 2018 and had no need for another one since then, so i'm not really suited to give any advice in that regards. And I am still wondering why those HDMI Adapter/Converter/Switches/Hubs are, most of the time, naming just a max. resolution in their specs and not the supported hdmi-spec (1.0, 1.1, ..., 1.4b, 2.0, ..., 2.1a) - sigh.

How do you find it performs on other systems with raspberry pi4?
Super Nintendo, Megadrive etc
From what I can see so far DOS might be the only one with issues. -
@Simrose From my usage the system that have a lot of performance issues is the N64.

@windg
Is the the monitor or just the emulator as I know that one doesnt work great on the pi4 hardware.
Thanks -
@Simrose Is the emulator that have performance issues. Some games are running good somo not very well.

I am trying to decide If I should get a modern gaming monitor with 1ms or a 4:3 lcd like the dell. Either one would need shaders. I really love the idea of 4:3 with no black borders or bezels. I looked at the CRT televisions but don't think ill have space for that and not sure about the safety. The other main thing I like about the dell monitor is the resolution which evenly divisible by 240p which should look better for these old systems. -
Has anyone tested a modern gaming monitor 1ms against the older lcd
I understand that the older monitors are great for plugging in actual retro hardware but as I am using the Raspberry Pi4 with Retropie I am wondering if a modern display would be better and using shaders.
I have been looking also at monitors like Dell G2422HS ( IPS and 1MS ) 1080P same default as Retropie using HDMI
My current tv is a samsung and has 9MS edge led. I want something smaller for my kids room.

If anyone has any thoughts on above i'd love to hear
thanks

I think this refers to old CRT monitors (i.e. professional grade monitors or just PC monitors that support VGA/SVGA).
Get the monitor you can fit in your room/arcade, if you want an older 4:3 style monitor that's fine, just get one that's not too worn out or too many dead pixels. As the others mentioned, plan ahead what will you do with the audio output - either get a monitor that has speakers or plan to add speakers to you your setup.

This seems to be geared mainly towards usage on old systems, there's no point in getting it just for emulation.
