      @edmaul69 The problem I had was with Fear Effect 1, I couldn't switch the disk. When ever I did the game didn't load. It works fine in RetroPie (thank God).

        @PetroRie hey, unless it can be tested without a gamesave, if you want, if you post a gamesave or if you sign up on atariage.com's forums you can send me a pm with a zip of your gamesave i would be glad to test it with my setup. If it works for me then i can tell you my whole setup to try to make it playable for you.

          @Ekstreme this actually looks pretty cool spec wise for a console. Cheaper than the $450 nes console thats available now that only does s-video and composite. I would love to turn one into a pi system with its 4 controller ports, micro usb and hdmi, but not for $185.

              @mediamogul it would hurt knowing i was modifying an fpga system. There just isnt enough of them designed out there and most companies use cheap poorly emulated system instead of something more accurate even when it has been done and offered to the companies who hold the rights to the consoles. (Atari and intellivision productions.. Possibly sega too) But i have modded tons of expensive consoles and controllers so whats one more? :)

                I admire your bravery. I could never talk myself into permanently modifying my childhood Power Glove to access it's full range of movement even though the idea was very tempting.

                  Would be cool if someone made a comparison video between Retropie on R3 vs AVS retroUSB. I know most hardcore people seek the fast response time from the AVS, but I am curious about the look.

                    I am curious about the look.

                    Below is a comparison shot that gives an example as to the difference in look between game play on the AVS to the Hyperkin RetroN 5 which also uses RetroArch to emulate the NES. While neither is perfect, the color palette for the AVS is much closer to the original. Supposedly it will look even closer after a planned firmware patch in the near future.

                      Retroarch is made up of different emulators. I'm using fceumm on my Pi2, and have quite a few palletes to choose from. The default did look like the Retron5 pic, but I found this one that looks pretty decent. 0_1476929106432_RetroArch-1019-185834.png

                        Very nice! I use lr-fceumm as well and I've managed to completely overlook the palette settings.

                          Wow, the number of color palettes is remarkable. According to most user accounts, both 'YUV to 3' and 'Unsaturated V5' are meant to most closely represent the the color palette of a ntsc front loading NES. I'm not around my setup at the moment, but I can't wait to try some of these out. Also, it's implied that these are both available in lr-fceumm and lr-nestopia, which is good news for those few roms that need to be run in one or the other.

                            Besides color pallete, there is the question about scanlines, blur and other filters. How close each system get to the look of a CRT monitor. The sprites were made with the CRT interference in mind, so I really wish that. The CRT-PI shader helps a lot, but sometimes the scanlines are too much noticeable.
