IPAC / XIN-Mo etc etc ... USB Suggestions?

@Graboid There is a terminal block on the ipac for TAB and ESCAPE. Buttons can just be wired to them and there is no configuration really necessary unless you wish to alter the function of those terminal blocks. See 2A and 2B, these are TAB and ESCAPE. 1B is Enter. Take a look.

Can you help me with my Xin-mo controller?
I have tried the USBquirks and it doesn't seem to work for me! I'm running a Raspberry pi 2 and RetroPie 4.1.
I have seen on 3.6 versions you have to have a custom kernel is this case on 4.1 too?

@tmlpd Hi,
I use a Raspberry Pi 3 and the USB Quirks worked straight away.
For the Pi 2, I'm honestly not sure if you also need the kernal fix applied.
Maybe start a new topic and ask other Pi 2 users what they used. Good luck! -
@rbaker Looks good. I've got my Xin-Mo all wired in, but if I do another build, I'll probably use an IPAC

@thomen Ipac2 for me. Although there can be issues because of the gamepad features, as long as you configure a keyboard first and make a note of the assignments, I have had no issues. Works great and you can map Escape.
You can update the firmware to remove gamepad function. I did this because having it take up a JS slot was annoying.

@Concat Yeah, I got my firmware file ready but since I managed to get it going, I left it going. The gamepad features caused me hell. Andy at Ultimarc says there is a bug in retropie that stops it detecting the device as a keyboard on first boot so I configured a keyboard and swapped in the ipac, never looked back.

@rbaker Speaking of that 'bug', did Andy share any details about what should/could be done to correct it without the IPAC firmware workaround? I am a big fan of the IPAC devices and I have been for years, so it would be nice if we could overcome that gamepad detection challenge that continues to cause confusion for people. I'm sure Ultimarc fields a fair amount of questions on this point too--it would be great to keep recommending the controller without creating the support burden for them and us.
@thomen I use an older IPAC-4 that used to run my windows-based arcade. It's still working great and I would choose it again for a 4-player arcade build. The fact that the IPAC-2 now even includes the trackball/spinner interface is a bonus that really sweetens the deal.

@caver01 Sadly not, he just said that he hoped that it would be fixed and that despite the gamepad detection, it would work as a keyboard.

"I believe there is a bug in Retropie which prevents working properly if it detects a game controller present. I wish they would fix this! But in the interim I have attached firmware for the I-PAC which disables the game controller device and it is only a keyboard. A PC will be needed for the upgrade." -
Mine was fine because keyboard was already set up. But it also assigned the IPAC to JS0, so if I wanted to use a PS3 controller for some games, I couldn't without messing with the joystick selection.
It depends what you want to do with it, quite frankly... but really it would nice to be able to disable the gamepad functionality straight from the UI when setting the keys. The firmware update was actually pretty confusing too... It required a separate USB driver once you put the IPAC into a state ready for update.
I suspect Andy just doesn't have the time or resources to making it all super user friendly.

Not to mention the fact that the default/supported configuration utility is built in Windows.
