Retropie Metadata Editor

Help! This morning I got an error prompt:
*"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.
Unexpected end of file has occurred. The following elements are not closed: desc, game, gameList. Line 2887, position 477."*
The RME stops scanning at the Mega Drive stage. Before it happened, I was editing Mega Drive games, until I pressed Save and got an unexpected error (I forget the exact wording), so I don't know if there's a connection. I restarted my laptop, Retropie and the RME and ever since I've got the error quoted above. I even tried rolling back RME versions to no avail. All my custom Mega Drive metatags have also disappeared. No other platforms were effected though.

@GrislyGrizzly
Have you tried to repair your gamelist.xml manually with notepad or another xml/text editor? -
@amadeus Thanks again for the swift help! I don't know what happened but the <desc> field on one of the ROMs I previously scraped with Emulation Station didn't close, so I've lost all data for ROMs that came after that one, but fortunately most of what I lost this morning has been recovered. I appreciate your program, as always!
-
@GrislyGrizzly
The cause for the problem occurred with your RME instance probably in a network "hickup".
At the moment the best way to avoid data loss ist to backup the config share of retropie before work with RME. thats why i mark RME still as BETA... :-)Maybe in future it is a good way to avoid this, that RME leech a lokal workcopy of the gamelist.xml files and copy them back to Retropie if the work is done...

Awesome work and updates my programming friend.
Had a thought, nothing ... important, not sure how much work would be involved, but considering you already have exporting gamelist supporting.
How much work to have your program backup all the metadata? Incase we goof something or want to transfer all the work to a 2nd or 3rd pi?
-
@LiqwdE
For sure it would be easy to backup the metadata.
It would be more complicated to restore it to a(nother) retropie, because the restore must be matched with the existing Roms.
I think for this usecase a better way is to use Win32 Disk Imager to copy the whole SD Card (include the metadata) -
Yeah, just had to learn more linux. My img file was to big for my 2nd sd card. 64gb is not 64gb, but the sectors between companies vary. I had to shave 500mb to copy it.
Wish I could dump my nes, snes, mega drive metadata to my 32gb pi's I made my family.
Didn't want to edit 6 rigs lol. I have a solid 64gb to copy and paste. Guess I'll have to make a 32gb. At least it's only twice lolEdit: Ok, the editor is not recognizing the Daphne games. I'm guessing cause of file format. The games are actually Folders. lair.daphne for dragons lairs, inside the folder contains the files movie, audio, and dat (tells whens to play what) Any ideas?
-
@LiqwdE
RME looks for files with extension .daphne - not for folders.
Are Daphne games EVER in folders? Is there no way to do it with files (maybe like .sh on Ports or .bat for PC)
If so, i have to implement some more lines of code for full Daphne support. -
Daphne is ALWAYS in folders. Name of folder is lair.daphne so it's not a file, it's still a folder. The .daphne let's the emulator know that all files are present

@LiqwdE
Pls can you contact me via E-Mail? You can find my address in my profil! -
Is it possible to add support full qualified paths in the xml file? As soon as the "path" contains something like "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/xxx" the editor is not showing any metadata.
-
@amadeus
Didn't see you email.
Mine is zephyrusd@gmail.com -
@daeks
Of which XML file you talking about? -
@amadeus I have created gamelist.xml files with screenscraper.fr tool and it put full qualified rom paths for rom file into the XML. As soon as I replace that with a point it works fine again.
-
Brother. This is incredible. People like you are making development much easier. kudos my friend.
-
Another request: Is it possible to add a functionallity to find duplicates? It would be great to sort by metadata name to identify double entries.
-
@daeks
Duplication detection would be a nice feature. I will think about it soon.
Currently i worked on folder support for daphne and pc.
The testing is done by LiqwdE, because I dont have any daphen or pc games on my retropie, as soon as I became a positive feedback, I will publish a new version of rme. -
Great :)
Another point I have seen, NEOGEO roms (also zip files) seem not be recognized by the editor. -
@daeks
Are your neogeo zip-files directly in the neogeo folder or did you put them in subfolders?
Can you send/pastbin me your gamelist.xml of neogeo please? -
@amadeus I extracted one example: http://pastebin.com/hQ5yHDkY
edit: I have also found out a "strange" behavior:
- It is possible to filter for "no metadata" and "no image"
- As soon as you have attached an image to a object without any metadata it will also disappear on "no metadata"
is it possible to show items with only an image also on the "no metadata" filter?
