Different Distributors: Element14 vs RS [Pi 3B]
-
Greetings,
Is there a difference with the Element14 & RS Raspberry Pi 3Bs? So mine is Element14. If I were to put my microsd card loaded w/ RetroPie 4.1 into an RS Raspberry Pi, will it still work?
I know they should be the same, but I just read an article that quality wise, they are actually different. I'd love to know everyone's thoughts on this. (which is really better?)

That article is from 2012, so I'm not sure if the variances are still applicable, but I've swapped SD cards among my Pi2 and multiple 3s without issue. My Pi 3s say they came from Element 14, and my Pi 2 says it was made by RS. I'm not sure where the Pi Zeroes were made as it's not written on the anti-static bag that's used as packaging, but I can swap cards among them as well.

@obsidianspider Good to know. Thanks Obsidian. I didn't even know it would work if I used an earlier Pi, even the Pi Zeroes. Wow.
So does anyone know if there's a difference in quality among the different distributors? Is one better than another?

@edm203 The two official RetroPie images are made for Pi2/3 or Pi1/0, but regular Raspbian or Raspbian Lite images seem to be Pi agnostic.

@obsidianspider Gotcha. I was referring to a backup image I made after working with the official RetroPie images. It seems to not matter. Just worried if I were to lose my Pi, and I had to buy a new one & new microSD card, would my backup image work on the new Pi even if came from a different distributor.

@edm203 You should be fine
