Retro game stuff talk

Just finished my run for today. Not so many good stuff this time.
@obsidianspider
Sorry, no Famicom today. There were 3 but way overpriced. Not tested 1790, 1980 and 2190Yen.
2 of them were actually very white-ish and one pub-yellow.Maybe next time I get lucky.
-
@FlyingTomahawk I love that "pub yellow" is the new name for those old discolored Famicoms.
Not that I'm in any kind of hurry, but did you end up going back to Hard Off to see if that Gameboy Pocket was still there?
-
While not totally "pub yellow" I just dug out my old SNES that I got in the spring of 1992 and it's definitely not aged as well as one of the controllers it came with.
-
@obsidianspider its funny how many old computers and video game consoles turned yellow due to the flame retardent used in those plastic parts. An apple 2's monitors plastic is the most toxic plastic i have ever dremeled through.
-
@edmaul69 and here I thought the most dangerous thing about an Apple II was Oregon Trail.
-
@obsidianspider yeah the smoke it creates is like a huge chemical fire. There isnt words to describe how toxic it was. I will take the dysentery over that.

Yeah I went back and checked it out, told the staff to show it to me. Thin scratches on the display, left side. No good.

Here the images of todays tour.
CPSII
Famicom Sofa!
They really used real games for this.
Famicom Micro
Another white GBA
not so rare after all -
@FlyingTomahawk Interesting that the clear purple GBA was more expensive than the white GBA. You see a lot more of the clear purple ones in the US.
-
yeah here too actually. not sure how they make those prices. The last white one was 2160Yen this one is only 1620Yen.
Hard-off is known for it to have different prices depending on the store and location. I saw 4 Famicoms for 540Yen each I went to over 6 different other Hard-offs and none could match those prices. They were mostly 3-4 times higher.
Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes not. I am gonna go again soon to that other store which had those 4 and if the other 3 are still there I'm gonna get them. -
@FlyingTomahawk All of them? Are you going to build a Famicom sofa? ;)
-
Hey, that is not a bad idea at all. :-)
-
I never realized how big a Virtual Boy is until seeing it in that "living room" setting at the store. That thing is huge! Did it work?
-
@obsidianspider
Yeah it did work. -
@FlyingTomahawk How many shops are on your itinerary for today?
-
LoL... 3 shops. Just finished one.
The Famicoms are in not so bad condition. Whiter than most others that I have seen.
A bit expensive though. -
@FlyingTomahawk $75 for a boxed FDS? That seems like a pretty good price based on other photos you've shared, and way cheaper than eBay.
I'm really liking how Famicom games came with lots of different colors of plastic for the shell. NES games were mostly gray.
How much do undesirable Famicom games sell for? The donor game for my Super Famicom screen was a soccer game I found on eBay for $4, but my decent shape Super Mario World was $15. Still not sure what I'll do with that. I'm thinking a shadow box with a background of a level in the game printed out if I can find a place that will print it. I have a feeling a photo printer wouldn't do it due to copyright.
-
undesirable Famicom games go for 100-200Yen
-
@FlyingTomahawk if/when you find a Famicom and/or other stuff to send to me I'd like you to grab a few of those. I really like the screen on my Super Famicom Pi, and I haven't seen anyone else do that yet, so I'd probably replicate it and maybe improve on it for a Famicom build.
Ugh, I'm so jealous of the abundance of retro game shops near you. By me there's ONE, and their inventory is really small.
