What games are you playing this week? 2017-05-15
-
@itsnitro All the "BONK" games on the PC Engine / Turbografx 16. He's a kid who bashes stuff with his big massive head. Also TOKI on MAME. Be a monkey and shoot stuff from your mouth and return to human form...
-
@itsnitro No idea. Is there a Linux port?
-
There sure is!
-
@itsnitro I await your Pi port then.
-
Currently I'm playing Clash of Clans and FF7

Kid Icarus on the NES
I picked this up again for the first time since childhood a couple months ago, played for like 4 nights straight, couldnt get past level 2, yelled at the game a few times, threw the controller once or twice. Wife looked at me like i was insane. This game is a hellride.

This game is a hellride.
I never owned this game but I remember renting it a couple times and getting frustrated at it. I have never beat the game. Maybe I should put that on my bucket list.
-
I might try to beat it at some point here, but im currently starting the second run of Super Ghouls and Ghosts (gotta beat it twice to actually win), figure i'd tackle something easier first, haha! Dang, you know it's hard when SGnG is being talked about as easier.

…so I decided to go to the museum in Pokemon Blue and I saw this. :-/
-
When was the game made? Are there any other space shuttles?
-
@CodeDrawer The original Pokemon games were released in 1996, years before Columbia disintegrated in February 2003. Damn. I still remember where I was when I found out that happened.
Six shuttles were built. Five were operational orbiters. Four are currently on display.
- Enterprise (built for approach and landing tests, not an operational orbiter) - on display at the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum
- Columbia - disintegrated during re-entry on February 1, 2003
- Challenger - disintegrated 73 seconds after launch on January 28, 1986
- Discovery - on display at the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum
- Atlantis - on display at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex
- Endeavour (built to replace Challenger) - on display at the California Science Center

I think I'm done with Operation C. Don't have enough time/patience to get all the cheevos, though.
I think the hardest cheevo I got was The Only Gun You Need - Complete the game using only the default gun.
-
I think I'm going to put Pokemon down again for a while. It just seems like a bunch of grinding, and it's just not fun. I mean, is there more to it than just walking around and picking up more Pokemon? I haven't seen any missions, or really anything. Granted, I only beat the first gym, but I did give it a solid go for a few hours.

I was excited when I got a good deal on a physical cart of Pokemon Yellow a few years ago. Pokemon was the biggest Nintendo franchise that I had never tried before. After a few days I was disappointed to come to your same conclusion. From what I hear the later games are an improvement and there's much more to do. I'm particularly looking forward to playing the GBA hack, 'Pokemon: Snakewood' sometime in the near future.

@mediamogul looks like a good option for halloween.
-
That's a really great idea. I already pick a retro horror game to complete every Halloween. Last year was 'Super Castlevania IV: Uncensored' and before that was Capcom's amazing first entry into the horror survival genre, 'Sweet Home'.
-
@mediamogul I bought Pokemon Yellow when it was new along with my Atomic Purple Game Boy Color. I never got very far in it back then either. :-/
-
I missed out on the Pokemon games as well. I wonder if you would had to play them when they're new to really get the impact of them. I do remember my college roommate would play one of the N64 Pokemon games a lot. I was busy playing Half-Life, Quake III Arena, Unreal Tournament at the time.
-
@backstander I never got into FPS or fighting games much either. I'm more of a platform/JRPG guy.
-
@hooperre Diablo on PSX is great!
Only issue that i have is that the background music randomly stops sometimes.
Besides of that the conversation of Diablo for the PS1 is well done imo.
