System backup and restore (idea and project)
-
So, with each major change/update I have been backing up my essential files and Roms/saves then updating via script or in some cases, starting it from scratch...
This last update (3.8.1) has so much updates I have been hoping for that I am just redoing it... But, I will be starting a way to make back up easier, without a bunch of extra programs...
I do not know about Mac programming, so hopefully someone who does will be willing to port it once I get a working copy up.
STATUS: Beta version 0.4b
Platforms: Raspberry pi directly
Language: BASH -
I would use this. Are you thinking of having this run on the Pi to push the files to be backed up to another computer on the network or an attached external hard drive, it could even be included with the official RetroPie image. If you're planning to have it run from another Linux or Windows computer to go get the files to be backed up, I'd use it either way.

It most likely will run directly off the pi due to issues with the Pi's security.... Only file I am having trouble setting up is the config file on the boot partition

the script will run sorta like this:
Sudo start
check for back up location status
If connected proceed else echo error
*Chmod back up files for copy privileges
Start back up with overwrite
*Once complete chmod files to default
Echo completion
Stop -
UPDATE: got an alpha level script written... It's very messy but will make a new thread looking for testers once I get a successful run on the pi itself (runs on Ubuntu)
