Are you happy with your setup?

My retropie setup looks and works great, fantastic theme (Futura), video previews, massive selection of games as i have a 128gb card, everything looks sweet! Sure, i need to sort out a few rom-specific emulators in the arcade section but that is trivial, and there are a couple of systems such as Dreamcast that i haven't really messed with to get them running better but that is more about the capabilities of the pi so am not bothered about that at this point.
So i should be happy right? It does everything i ever hoped it would and after almost 20 years of messing with emulation I have got a 'perfect' system...
But i check here multiple times a day to see what trivial little things can be fettled with, try different themes before going back to Futura, mess with different filters, just change little bits and pieces for no reason at all.
And isn't that the beauty of it all, there is always something new to try and play with, i cannot imagine not 'messing' with my setup and that is at least as much fun as actually playing the games themselves.
So, anyone else get as much enjoyment out of retropie as a 'project' as they do out of retropie as an emulation system?

I think my project is OK, I can connect almost all types Nintendo controllers on my pi. But I still missing 9 pin connectors for Megadrive or msx controllers.

My pi inside a super famicom is still being tweaked..so not happy yet. I just upgraded to a pi3 and been testing temps of different heatsinks, and adjusted my cable management for it. Also, the gamecon driver is still broken so I can't use my real snes pads anymore. Oh, and I'm waiting on a release of that Pegasus menu frontend.

I'm getting there...
I recently came to the conclusion that hardware is just as important as software.
I had already been using the appropriate controller for each system to add an element of realism, but a lot of the systems I emulate were computers rather than consoles.
I decided that playing an Atari ST, ZX Spectrum, C64 etc on my big tv with a controller was less than ideal, so I decided to build another machine to use with a keyboard, mouse and monitor.
I'm 90% of the way there now.
I have it housed in a vintage PC tower at the moment, but I'm looking at other smaller cases.Everything is mounted inside the case; the Pi, the power supply, hdmi-vga adapter, and the usb-to-DB9 joystick adapter that I made by hacking a controller.
All the ports are broken out to the rear of the case, so all the cable spaghetti is neatly tucked away inside the case.
I first started with a Pi Zero, but found it couldn't run some of the emulators well enough, so I upgraded to the Pi3 today.
That has simplified things somewhat, because I now no longer need the powered usb hub, usb sound card or mini hdmi adapter.
The Pi3 setup has actually ended up being a lot smaller and simpler, so I'm thinking of moving down to a smaller case.I have a vintage beige UPS case that I might be able to shoehorn everything into, or maybe I'll get an old external hard drive case or something.
The main thing about this project is the idea of having everything inside the case - it makes it so much neater and nicer looking.
Just because a Pi CAN be small doesn't necessarily mean it SHOULD.
Far better to have all the peripherals inside the case than have wires and boxes everywhere. It's definitely a work in progress, but it's proving to be a lot of fun :D

@chubsta My main setup sits under my TV in the lounge room and acts mostly as a Kodi media center. I have it running all my media and roms off my NAS in the office. I set it up months ago and haven't touched it since. It's probably still running RetroPie 3.6 or something. I spend more time making themes for ES than I do actually playing games on the thing.
I'm currently re-sorting all my roms to get rid of the junk (my own little All Killer, No Filler setup) and scraping everything to have awesome Mix images, and videos. Having a billion-odd games is great, but sometimes too much is just too much.
Once the roms are sorted I'm going to go on full upgrade mode and bring it up to the latest and greatest version of ES so I can use Videos and Custom Carousels. I'm going to wait until @Zigurana's Fav-Mod is part of core first though.

@chubsta I am in the same boat as you. I enjoy the project as much as the result. My intention was to build a somewhat portable 4-player cocktail style arcade system. I have done that and it turned out better than I had hoped. Now, I am adding to it with other emulators and frankly, these additions are just gravy.
I know there are limits to what I can reasonable expect from arcade controls, but the hobby is now inspiring me to do another project for consoles. The best part is that the growing community keeps improving the capabilities.

On the software end, I love the Pixel theme; I complemented it with runcommand load screens, a splash screen video on load, and background music. I also added box art for all of my games, and have been making an effort to freshen them up in Photoshop to make them look not so worn and beat up.
I've been happy with it, but I'm getting a bit tired of my stock red/white Pi case. I've had dreams of housing it in a Lego case, and adding working power and reset buttons. Unfortunately, I can't think of a decent source for Lego bricks. I've seen sellers hocking random bricks in bulk on Amazon and eBay but I've seen reports of crap bricks and random toy parts that don't belong.

@Eldrethor I'd check out Bricklink.com. You can even build your virtual case using the Stud.io software which is integrated with bricklink.com allowing you to place an order for just what you need.
I have ordered some complete sets (Classic Space) from different vendors on Bricklink with good results.

I am pretty happy with it functionally at this point. I got it outputting to a scart switcher and eventually to a broadcasting crt monitor, the image fits on the screen perfect and the lag is really low...but it looks terrible. I got cords and extra $#&* plugged into it and its held together with rubber bands. I would like to eventually build a nice case for it. Because I got a hat board and other weirdness (USMC) plugged into it my setup is more complicated than usual to make a case for it...maybe I take a pic and show you guys. It is funny looking.

I am... getting there :P
I have put a collection of games on from the systems I am mostly interested in (16GB was never going to be enough) I have played around with settings, getting the games to look nice and play well. I spent some time today messing with the overscan settings to get the screen to fill out properly.
But the problem is there is always more to do. It is so customizable. What I want to do next is get a bigger SD card or usb drive to put my games on so I have room to scrape all the games and get some nice artwork. Then obviously actually scrape them. Then I might look at putting some keyboard based systems on it but my wireless keyboard is missing some features like F1-F12 keys, so I need a new one of those and on and on...
Maybe I can just sit and play some games one day and be happy, hahaha

My Pi is almost to a perfect point for me
i have only a 64GB microsd car that came with it in the canakit.
With a lot of help on this forum, i mange to transfer all my roms to my network eternal HDD and i am able to play with them correctly.
I have raspbien with pixel because i have replaced my laptop for my PI. What i mean by that is that my laptop use to be connected to my 50 inch TV with HDMI and was use for kodi and everything else.
Now i can do all this with my Pi and i enjoy it as much. Off course my laptop is more powerfull but i dont care about that for what i want. I am not as much a PC gammer as i use to be and i use to have the need to have a powerfull laptop or desktop to play games. Now i do have a PS4 so ....
Basically My pi serves me as ( browsing internet, watch movies and series with kodi, play retro games with retropie )
I wish netflix could work also on the pi ( yeah i know there is a third party netflix thingny that exist but i dont really want that for now ), i can watch netflix directly from my PS4.
Only physical upgrade i want to do is the change the closed box it came with and buy one that has a fan. Does anyone know a good box with fan that does not need to connect on the GPIO pins ?
I also am usin the theme carbon for retropie and even though i had done the update, i dont have any video previews and dont know why, but that is not the end of the world.
The only real issue i am having for now is a problem with my ps4 controller and retropie that the right stick does not work but that is already on a diferent topic, i was just mentionning it for the purpose of this dicution.
To answer the main question here, YES I AM HAPPY WITH MY PI AND MY SETUP.
Even if i still may make some little ajustment and/or upgrade, this thing is DA BOMB for its price and technology
Now that i have it, i could not and will not go without it ;) !!!!

Mostly happy with mine.
I've got a few trouble areas with moonlight. (Cemu, and Dolphin) and I need to do some work still to get mame set up with a wiimote and usb lightbar for lightgun games. But overall I'm very happy with it. I kept the theme very simple with it just being the plain carbon theme. Simple and clean is the way to go for the interface.

RPI2 running RetroPie 4.2, use it trough HDMI and AV, but using AV the quality is bad.
Happy with it, just need to find a theme I really like.Besides that, I am thinking about a handheld or at least a portable build, but for now i think it's too much work and money for something that a 15€ bluetooth controller and my phone can do.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
