Request: Option To Disable Carousel in ES UI Options
-
I have a request for all you awesome and handsome programmers who are working to make ES the best frontend it can be! I cannot program, so I rely on you guys to make amazing things because you're awesome! Ok, now that i've buttered you all up....
I would like to suggest that an option for ENABLE CAROUSEL ON/OFF be added to the UI menu. This function would disable the carousel completely when off and automatically load into the gamelist of the first system you have set in es_systems.cfg when ES is loaded.
There are 2 really good pros to this option:
-
If somebody is building an NES mod for example and only wants NES on there. They could turn off ENABLE CAROUSEL -and- QUICK SELECT, and their NES would load into an NES only list without the extra step of needing to see the carousel first. And with Quick Select also disabled, their kids couldn't accidently scroll into the retropie menu.
-
When combined with the Quick System Select, (which obviously lets you switch systems in list view without ever seeing the carousel just by hitting left and right on the joystick) would be nice for an arcade setup like mine where i would just like to switch systems quickly without ever needing to see the carousel or accidentally go back to it (one less step to confuse the kids).
The carousel is a pretty awesome piece of eye candy, but for some of us who are looking to streamline, it's just an extra step that may or may not be necessary. An option to skip it entirely might be desirable to some people. Of course i have no idea how difficult that would be to implement, but I'd gladly help in any way I can. Thanks guys!

@Capeman Lets do this together. Even if you dont have any experience with programming. I can spend some time to help you out and help others get started if they are so inclined.
I am writing a sort of guide for people getting started with Development

@Hex I'm on board too. Can I just cheer from the sidelines?

@Capeman you can start with this till i write the next part

Cool! I'll check it out this evening after work and the kids got to bed!
-
@Capeman did you get time to work on this?
-
I opened a Git account and downloaded the app on my mac, I'm going to do the next part of the tutorial hopefully tonight. Busy busy, hahaha, thanks!!

FYI,
Someone submitted something similar to this previously that was rejected.

It looks to be rejected mainly based on how rudimentary the request was that was submitted. The guy who originally submitted this push did so by simply making a flag that disabled the back button in ES, which is too simple of an implementation for buzz, he wrote that he wanted to make sure it was a better coded function.
@Hex, i promise I'll get to the next step soon, perhaps tonight if i get a lull, hahaha! Too many adult, work and parenting responsibilities come first. Damn these 30's.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
