      For the fellows out there with PI 3's I highly recommend checking out enabling the NEON enhancement for PSX emulation.

      In the file
      /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-core-options.cfg

      look for the lines

      pcsx_rearmed_neon_enhancement_enable = "disabled"
      pcsx_rearmed_neon_enhancement_no_main = "disabled"

      and edit them to enabled
      Massive upgrade to jagged lines.

        @Twitch0815 Nice, but any degradation to performance? I have high resolution mode enabled too.

          Have not noticed a bit of impact on performance.
          The pi 3 has a lot of cpu overhead especially on psx emulation

            What is the option to configure high resolution mode?

              What does it look like?
              Do you have any before / after images to share?

              If tetris has thought me anything, it's that errors pile up and that accomplishments dissappear.

                yeah been running this for a while. it's not the neon graphics plugin - that's always running. it's the 'enhanced resolution' and 'enhanced resolution speed hack' options for that plugin that we're talking about.

                i've not pixel-counted screenshots, but i believe it doubles the resolution to the PSX's max of 640x480. however, some games already run in higher resolutions natively (eg tekken 3 which is 384x480), so with those games it's not so apparent (maybe it doesn't do anything at all). with anything else it's night and day, though.

                there should be no degradation of performance on the pi3 (i get some performance hitches with games but i don't think it's related), although there certainly is on the pi2.

                there's some screenshots here: https://retroresolution.com/2016/01/07/playstation-emulation-on-the-pi-enhancing-the-experience-with-the-options-menu-part-two-graphics/
                however changing it via the retroarch menu as indicated in that link won't work on a default retropie setup as it doesn't save config changes done via the menu - follow twitch's instructions above :)

                  I was working on a really cool 64 optimization video but as soon as I finish that up ill take some comparison screenshots for you on a few games.

                              Have you tried CastleVania - SOTN with this enabled.

                              I'm getting graphical glitches. White flashing bar at the top and bottom of the screen.

                                there are (usually minor) graphical glitches in many games with it enabled. if you turn off the speedhack:
                                pcsx_rearmed_neon_enhancement_no_main = "disabled"
                                they should go away, but the frame-rates will dip.

                                  Would having the video smoothing true have a negative effect when neon is enabled? For some reason enabling neon makes scan lines visible with slightly more jagged text. I have smoothing set to true.

                                    @dankcushions Thanks. I did try that but still glitches. I turned the enhancements off and just enabled a decent shader so it looks decent now.

                                        So which is it that we should be enabling? "enhanced resolution" or "neon"

                                        In the wiki addition you made, you mention "neon".

                                        I AM ERROR.

                                          @BenWlson its the two lines in the cfg mentioned in the wiki. they are options for the neon plugin, rather than the plugin itself.

                                            Just checking this out - looks great on Wipeout 2097.
                                            Just trying to work out if I should keep video_smooth on or off as well.

                                            I think as this setting

                                            pcsx_rearmed_neon_enhancement_enable = "enabled"
                                            pcsx_rearmed_neon_enhancement_no_main = "enabled"

                                            is stored in the core-options config you could tweak it in RGUI as opposed to only at the file directly.
                                            Does anyone find it needs the speed hack on if you are using a Pi3? I guess I'll play around with some settings.

                                            Please read the Docs before asking a new question.
