PSPi 1000 Version 4
-
PSPi Version 4 is finished and started shipping in January 2018.
Check it out at https://othermod.com/pspi-1000-version-4/
Thanks to all you guys that made this possible. I doubt I ever would have built this if it wasn't for RetroPie.
I encourage any involvement, so join me on Discord, GitHub, and othermod. The software is constantly getting improvements, so help is always appreciated.

Awesome! I'd love to have one of these!

@adamspc Awesome news, I've been watching the stock levels of boards and screens waiting to buy, how far away do you reckon this is from being available?
-
@fruitybit This one will be a couple more months. It costs a few hundred every time I make a prototype, so I'm stress testing this first one for a while to work out as many bugs as possible.
I cannot for the life of me keep the v3 in stock. Part of that is because it's really hard to build them. The other part is that I have to modify LCDs too, and that takes more time. Luckily I'm getting away from the LCD part with v4.
-
@adamspc are you using the PSP's own LCD now? You running it over DPI?
-
@moosepr it's not the PSPs original LCD. I couldn't get rid of the flicker, so I just went with aftermarket. It is using DPI and it's magnificent.
-
@adamspc Well, wallet is ready and waiting... I hope the screen will be available from your site as well?))
-
@fruitybit most likely. Still working on those details. It won't be the confusing situation that the composite LCDs caused for sure though. Either I'll stock it or I'll give a link that's guaranteed to be the right LCD. No disassembly, just the panel.

Actually, I will be sending test boards out to a couple people that get involved in this last bit of design.

Man I wish I still had my PSP lying around. This would be awesome to have. Any possible future plans on the PS VITA??? I do have one of those
-
This is insanely good. Well done Sir.
-
@akumamax Doubtful. If I did something else it would probably be a custom case.
@goobatroopa Thank you for the compliment -
Update 1: Got the board to detect battery voltage and show the amount remaining. Software is getting there...
The same code also handles the joystick. It took a while to get it working right, but the project finally has a genuine analog joystick. I'm still tweaking it. Once it's finished I'll show you guys how to get the joystick working over the GPIO pins (using an I2C module).

I welcome any help in getting this software finished. Would prefer to integrate it into retrogame, but most of the Python code was already available and I'm still focused on the board design

Am I correct and is the screenshot from an emulated PSX game on this PSPi?
-
@marc0janssen
This is a GBA game. The Zero doesn't do many PS games well. Also while I'm here I should update this a bit. I started shipping the boards in January and I'm continuing to make improvements as I go. I make every board by hand, so I only ship 10 or so a week, but I'm gradually getting faster at it.
Thank you to the RetroPie guys for helping make this project possible. Your hard work allowed me to focus mostly on hardware and a few small software tweaks. You guys reading this, don't forget to support them at https://retropie.org.uk/donate/

@adamspc getting super polished now dude!! Awesome job

what's the advantage of this over a hacked psp where we can also play psp games and all other retro games?

It's just different. The PSP could emulate some of the consoles and run PSP games. The Zero can also emulate the consoles, but it's limited to pre-Playstation/PSP. What you get though is all the other features of the Raspberry Pi. There's constant development on software for the Raspberry Pi, so there's going to be more game ports, better emulators, and more features as time goes on. There's tons of inputs for adding additional modules. Then there's the satisfaction you get from making something yourself, and being able to tweak the software to do what you want it to do.
The last big advantage is that this lets people revive their dead PSPs. I understand that some working ones are used for modding, but just as many dead ones were used, and those were just paperweights. Paperweights don't do much emulation.

I have just discovered this and was wondering when you will be getting any more kits in?
