Battletoads Mame2010 Glitch?

A friend and I were playing 2 player Battletoads arcade via Mame2010 and some odd glitch (I think) happened. I was player 1 and as we continued to the next map I saw my health bar and Pimple as the portrait next to it but my character was gone. Anything I pressed wouldn't do anything. My friend was able to play on as player 2 without me. I know the details of this situation could be more clear, so I'll have to run some tests and try to recreate it. If you want to try yourself, try and complete stage 1 with player 1 dead, player 2 alive, and have player 1 try to coin-in on stage 2.
